as the topic says, my car is throwing a code 17. my speedometer is not working and whenever i drive sometimes the check engine light comes up. can anybody tell me how to fix or what to look for on this??? thanks in advance!!!

 

First figure out what the code 17 is. If it is the Vehicle Speed Sensor code (which I think it is, but I could be wrong), check to see that the speedo cable is in the top of the tranny firmly.

 

I had this happen to me also. I removed my gauge cluster at least three times (spitting and cussing the whole way) trying to figure out what the hell was going on. It turned out that the last time I removed the dashboard, I pulled the speedo cable out of the tranny. It was throwing the same code (17).

 

That usually indicates a bad speed sensor. Check the connector first, sometimes they get corroded. If it was an automatic the D4 light would also be flashing.
