Default Why is my 99 accord stuck in park and engine wont start??

Upon returning home i put my car in park and i noticed that the engine was idling pretty low, almost stalling. I could rev the engine just fine if i gave it some throttle. At this point i believe the car became stuck in park.

I turned the car off, and its stuck in park. I can turn the ignition, and it will try to crank, faintly. After only just a few attempts, the battery was dead enough to the point where its just clicking.. I dont think its a brake light switch, etc because in that case the engine shoudl start?

Is it possible that a solenoid is stuck in the tranny and thats what was causing the low idle, and now why its stuck in park, and why the engine has a hard time starting? What else could it be?

Have the battery checked. Before installing it after getting it checked, charged or replaced clean and tighten all ends of the cables.

Then if it is still stuck in Park let us know.

Low battery voltage is probably causing the symptoms.

As mentioned its probably a lack of voltage. I take it there is an interlock assembly on the AT shifter, if there is no power this interlock will not allow the shifter to be moved from Park. Older model Hondas have a slot next to the shifter bezel that allows you to insert a key that will manually override the interlock.

If the car battery is in good shape and the tranny is still stuck in park, call your local dealer to find out if your tranny is covered under a recall. Good luck.

There is no recall related to a transmission stuck in park.
