LSD Transmission seized and went boom :(
Just thought I'd share my misfortune on my fresh LSD transmission I just purchased a few days ago from HMO. Total cost on a JDM B18C with the optional LSD trans ran me $3700.
Long story short, one of the axle seals that connects into the trans was busted. I drove from SC to TX literally the next day after installation (1st mistake) so I did not notice the leak until I was 2-3 hrs away from home. I was driving and 5th gear popped out of gear, and heard a whistling noise coming from the bay. i pulled over looked undervthe car and the whole bottom was covered in fluid
Started the car back up and each gear would grind as I tried to shift until it finally just stuck. I towed the car back home straight to the shop I go to in Houston and it was the news I did not want to hear. Trans was fried D:
So now I'm running a fresh B16 with LSD, while I was it I went and went with a brand new stage 1 Exedy Clutch and Fidenza light weight flywheel. Total cost after other misc. Repairs I had done to it $2800 :x
Lesson learned, don't rush anything and don't take a long trip after install! Lol
Car runs perfect now, but my wallet got **** raped with no lube.

Thats what happened to a friend of mine, blew his differential cuz of it. Are you sure you couldnt revive the tranny???? Cuz my friend revived his. Just got a new differential, bearings, and cleaned the metal up.. Drives as perfect as it did before.

I was on a short time frame. I was only visiting town for a few days, I couldn't afford a rebuild with such a short time frame, or I would have repaired my original trans. O well, I'm happy with what I have now. lol

that sucks man. when i had my swap out of the car i installed a ITR LSD into my GSR trans and changed out the seals to avoid a disaster exactly like what you just described.
