Car won't start
Everynow and then I'll get into my car and try to start it, but it just clicks and wont actually crank. The battery has power so that's not the issue. But after I sit for a few minutes and keep trying it, eventually it will start. Any idea what the issue could be? It's pretty annoying to have to sit until my car wants to start.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I couldnt say for sure what it is. I know the main relay in my crx would prevent me from starting it when it was hot outside. I notice your from texas as well lol so this may be the case for you as well. What type of car are you having trouble with? Have any check engines codes? sometimes when your having a problem the code won't even show up on the dash. It's best to have the codes read because the ecu may have some pending and this might save you a **** ton of time. Sorry I couldn't be more specific with out more details about the car.
maybe you should have your alternator checked or even your starter. i used to have an old ef si and it would turn on, but it wouldn't crank...if i remember correctly it was starter problem. But it's only personal experiences good luck man.
I agree with cherryb. Sounds like the the starter not popping out and spinning that flywheel. I say replace that starter. You can get your battery checked to make sure it still puts out the right amount of cold cranking amps. If it does my bet is the starter.
You may be on the right track but before you start spending money for parts, use a voltmeter and your eyes to do some diagnostics.
Put a full charge on the battery (got a charger? trickle chargers are cheap).
You should see about 12.6VDC on the battery when it's fully charged, before you turn on the key.
Check the battery cables, that they're snug and not corroded. If there's doubt, take them off, dip them in warm water with a couple of tablespoons of baking soda, then clean up the terminals on the battery with a battery tool, sandpaper, file, or scrape them with a knife (etc) so that it's clean metal-on-metal. Reinstall and tighten everything.
Double check where the ground cable from the battery connects to the frame, and also the ground from fender to transmission. It carries much of the current to turn the starter.
If you can get it going, and have a healthy alternator, you should see about 13.8VDC at a fast idle...
