Default Metal Shavings in oil (pics).

So I was changing my oil today and found this... (yes I paid $15 for this bolt)

Another angle...

Is this normal? Anybody who has a magnetic drain bolt chime in.
It does not look that bad but I want to get an idea on how much everybody else is accumulating.

Whoa! So thats not normal? I can’t see the shavings in the oil, just on the drain bolt. When I rubbed it off on a paper towel it had an metallic color to it, that’s why I’m assuming it’s metal shavings. I got the tranny/drain bolt from ipsracing, yes it’s the Spoon combo ($15 each bolt, I guess).

mine looks like that as well every time i change my oil............i think it mainly comes from the valve train (cams, lifters) and maybe some from the cylinder walls? (i doubt it though) everything else it aluminium so it wont get attracted to the magnet............

I found that the last time too. Usually not like that but maybe the motor is getting old.

My magnetic drain bolt looks the same when I change my oil. I have to presume it's normal. I've seen other pics online where you see sharp, angular shavings shooting off from the magnet, like iron filings or something. Now that would scare me, but what you have does not. Engine wear happens, it's a known fact.

Normal! My magnetic drain plug looks the same during every oil change I've done.

Wait till you see what the magnetic tranny bolt picks up

XtraFastCRX, I went out and bought them, that's how I know I have them. Each time I change my oil, I get the exact same thing, a slight bit of metallic film on the magnet, but never any pieces or anything else.

You're still in the adjustment process, so that should be normal to find.

yeah I've heard people say the R engine isn't "broken in" till about 25k anyway.

for such a small amount of particles I wouldn't worry. If you were to collect the amount of particles saved over the life of the engine, you wouldn't even be able to make a spoon out of it

That looks like my transmission bolt.
The bolt was had sooooooo much gunk on the magnetic part it was crazy! I guess it's better on the tip of the bolt than floating around inside

Normal........i have about 10,000 miles on mine, and it looks the same on what i have when i do monthly oil changes.

however, you will notice a nice chunk of metal crap on your tranny bolt.

take a look for yourself

but again, its normal.
