its a 2001 civic lx...anyways well mom just got home and called me that her brake lights are still engaged even though the car is off? i find that a bit weird.. so before i go tackle that tomorrow morning i decided to come to honda-tech in hope that they can enlighten me on what to look for tomorrow....what would cause the brake lights to stay on even tho car is off?

 

Check the switch under the pedal.

 

And the rubber pad that pushes on it.

 

Right that rubber pad probably broke and fell out.
It has to be there and press on the switch button even when the car is off in order for your brake lights to be off. I know it sounds like reverse logic but that is how it is on hondas.

 

He's probably figured this out already. It's a rather simple problem to diagnose.
