I need to change my fuel pump, honda says you can do it through the back seats, but some forums say you must drop the tank....i have an 88 civic dx hatch

if i recall the fuel sender is accesible through the backseat however you must drop the tank to replace the pump.

 

I kno you must drop the tank for the 90-91to change the pump. So unless its diffrent for the 88-89 and you can change it from inside the car idk. But I'm pretty sure your gonna have to drop the tank

 

whats the difference between fuel sending unit and pump?

 

fuel sending unit is to let u know how much gas u have in the tank

 

u must drop the tank i have a 89 hatch and have to do the same thing

 

On the 88-91 civic and crx, you have to drop the tank. I am 1000% certain of this. They changed it for the 92+ because it was such a PITA. Sorry in advance.. the faq section has details on how to make it as painless as possible though.
