head gasket replaced now oil leak from head/block surface
Ok guys i know il have to pull the head back off but just give me some ideas of what i may of done wrong. So i replaced the head gasket on a f22b2 (might of been a b1) and now i have a massive leak that looks to be coming from the mating surface of the head and block on the intake side. Its leaking pretty bad though. Im thinking either i put the hg on backwards or maybe i forgot the o ring that goes over the oil control orfice. The only other thing would be that the head is just warp or the block. It was leaking coolent into the cylinders and this is y i replaced it. It runs perfect and the plugs look great but oil is leaking from that side so i dunno. Any ideas would help thanks guys
did you:
Inspect the cylinder head and block for warpage, cracks or scoring?
Run a bottoming tap down all the bolt holes until it came out clean?
Correct orientation of gasket?
Use new bolts or inspect your old ones?
Oil bolt heads/threads with 5W-30 engine oil?
Follow the proper torque sequence/specifications?
Use a properly calibrated torque wrench on the head bolts?
Follow the bolt loosening sequence when removing the head?
Use abrasive materials to clean the mating surfaces?
Did the bolts make noise on their way in while tightening?
Your oil control orifice, even without an O-ring will not leak oil externally. The O-ring keeps the oil from flowing around the orifice.
Guessing is not going to get you an answer. Follow the installation procedure outlined in the service manual to the letter and you will not have the problem again.
THIS INCLUDES TAKING MEASUREMENTS!
The engineers didn't just come up with that stuff for their own amusement. You need to follow the procedure, to the letter.
It's a precision engineered machine, not a lego set. If there is more warpage than the thickness of 2-1/2 sheets of paper it won't seal. (0.005")

yeah it was backwards, switch it around run the same gaskets, bolts, and throw a oring on and im done haha. Yeah i could run a feeler guage under a straight edge on the head but screw it. thanks for nothing as usual in the accord forums
haha, i did the sme thing, except after i took the head off to see i had it backwards i reinstalled and a head bolt stripped out, now getting a new block. sucks b/c i got everything back together and trq'd the first time if i would not had put on backwards i would prob. be driving the car now. good ish
Well if it's warped it won't seal. I've been there and done that dude I know what I'm talking about.

thanks man!! I finally finished last night like at 2 and everything seemed good. So I checked the timing this mourning and did another oil change and gave it back to the owner. Hopefully all is well and Il let u know if it comes back chikin. Usdm i wish u posted a lil sooner to help calm my nerves yesterday but the first time i saw the leak i assumed i had put it on backwards. Sorry to hear that bad news usdm, it seems to me that the accord head studs arnt near as good as quaility as the ones in b's or d's. Kinda remeinded of the head studs in a 99 cavalier that i just did a head swap on but ur not suppose to reuse those either. Alldata didnt say anything about not reuseing them but it did say so on the head gasket packaging.
Oh chikin, im not sure if i got the right size o ring in there, can u explain a lil further on the purpose of that thing? is it just to keep it outta the hg area or to keep the pressure up when moving it from the block to the head?
