Default gsr trans weird noise help!!!

narrowing down the noise (clunking/clicking) it seems to be loudest near the starter. My assumption would be either the starter isnt hooked up correctly or speed vss was not put correctly in because my speedometer isn't work. any ideas what it may be, if it is my vss is there a proper way to put it back in rather than just popping it back in.

could be a pressure plate spring in the bell housing or a diff bearing or a series of bearings

The vss is hard to jam it kinda just pops in easy. It could be a stripped gear on the vss or the speedo gear on the diff but if th grans wasn't in gear when you spun the input shaft you wouldn't know if the diff bearings were bad

mine didn't pop in easy kinda had to twist and push in to get in, it did feel real snug or kinda jammed when i got it in not sure though. But it makes noise when its in nuetral and you can hear it when you give it some gas on a roll.

Ok the VSS only gives you the speed of the vehicle. reving the engine in neutral will not change the noise or help you hear a vss gear noise so that tells me its not the vss. If your in neutral not moving and you rev it up and it makes noise its either something to do with the clutch/flywheel assembly or a bad bearing on one of the two shafts inside the transmission. if your in gear and accelerate does the noise get louder with the load on it or is the noise the same as when you just free rev the engine

If your moving and its makign noise in gear or neutral then sounds to me like a bad needle bearing on one or the gears or diff bearings but hard to tell without seeing/hearing the car

well it seems to be a constant light sound and some time when you shut the engine off you can hear it clearly like three or four clunking/clicking noise slowing down

are you still driving it, and would you think that would be the cause of my idle being at 2k rpm

I don't know about the idle part, but I still drive mine. I read a guy drove his that way for a year and it affected nothing.

Have you tried messing with your IACV?

yeah i turned the screw all the way in, i may have not set the timing correct because i was able to drop the idle to 1300-1400 rpms after turning the dizzy all the way forward. so when the weather turns out better im going to check that everything is timed correct.

Transmission problems won effct idle quality. If it's a light sound it can still be bearings inside the tranny or something inside the bell busing but it's not the vss or diff problem

Is there a cable from the speedo gear to your speedo?? Sounds like a bad cable to me.

no it plugs right into the wiring harness, i'm going to try taking it out and putting it back in.

from what it looks like it might be my throw out bearing, or input shaft since the sound stops after i push the clutch down. But i just put a new throw out bearing.

If the noise happens when the clutch is depressed, it's not the throw out bearing. The noise would start when the clutch would be depressed. Might be your input shaft bearing. Or maybe low on fluid. Maybe...

Inputshaft bearing for sure. The longer you drive it the worse the noise will get. Fix it soon before it damages other bearings

eventually it will damage more bearings. wen the input shaft gets really bad there is movement and puts abnormal wear on the bearing on the othe end of input shaft. also if it comes apart the bearing pieces can tear up the inputshaft seal and other bearings.

are you sure its not the throw out bearing, because when i put the new one in it did seem to have more play than the one i bought from a store.

u fill the tranny via the fill bolt.

its your isb.

the throwout bearing makes noise with clutch peddal pushed in and also in lower gears like 1 and 2 when cruising.

isb makes noise with it just sitting out and idling.

if u need help on fixing this i can get you all diagrams, some videos AND walkthroughs with pivcs and parts/tools needed. just pm me. i did this three times.
