HELP, problems with lug nuts
Heres the story, I dropped of my car at the acura dealership to get the 30,000 mile checkup( i know i should do it mysef) and a day later they call me and tell me that they cant get the lugnuts off the wheels and that they have been torqued to twice the regular amount. The wheels have never been taken off since ive had the car so it must have been the previous owner who tighted the lugnuts. So now what the hell do it do? How do i get the nuts of without breaking anything? what could go wrong when they try to take them off, cuz im fully responsible for any damage according to them? Should i contact the previous owner and what should i say??
thanks
Nick

That's ummm...what he said. IOW...so what? The wheel studs are fairly cheap. If they break they break. You're gonna have to take your wheels off sooner or later anyway.
Screw that, don't pay them for that gravy work. Get the car back, use a breaker bar and long pipe and go to work. Just hose them with penetrating oil and go watch a football game before you start. Oh and get a few studs before you start if the Teg is your only transport.
it's not too bad to take off.
we had that on my friends gti. shop torqued to over 200lbft. the car started moving onto the chocks before and it woudlnt' com eoff.
we broke my socket as well.
finally we took his emergency jack, and attached my jack into it (thankgoodness it had a whole), so my guess is that it took about 300lb-ft of force to take it off.
