I've been offered an 03 S2K for my 97 Prelude.
It is one of the very few cars that I would part with my Lude for, the others being RSX-S and WRX.
before you say "97 Lude for 03 S? Fack yea no question!"
facts are S is rebuilt title (trying to find out what caused it, hoepfully seat theft)
pretty much stock slammed on springs.
81K
Prelude has just had RHD conversion the GOOD way keeping everything even AC
F20B all new everything on it
brand new fidanza 8lb and ACT 6 puck HD
but has r side slight damage and r door is black.
He would want the money to take care of the side/paint the door = 800.
So it would be a trade + $800. What do you think? Another problem that its on mautofied, which means when dude gets bored of the RHD its going to end up in the hands of any and everyone over the course of it's life, but I imagine with an S, I wouldn't care?

Heh. I'm not doubting the S it's self is a better car, but in this situation it may not be entirely true. Also there isn't another Prelude like this; I made sure of that. It's also not done, things happened with money after I got t back, and I'm just now recovering, so no body, suspension, or wheels have been done yet.
S

Lude

Just heard from him, said:
Should I ask him if he was the perpetrator, or just stay away? Or should it matter? Could it be an actual flood car that he would make that up about, so it doesn't soun "damaged"?
Not sure how to take that statement.

It was allegedly in a flood, however it never was. Its an insurance fraud claim.

I would be a little skeptical as well. Just like saying, it says here the car was in an accident. Well allegedly it was in an accident...
Just check the car over, if there is not any issues then you are good. Guessing it would be mainly electrical and mold issues.
Here are some tips from carfax
To help you avoid cars with water damage, CARFAX offers these tips:
* Check the trunk, glove compartment, the dashboard and below the seats for signs of water damage such as silt, mud or rust.
* Examine upholstery and carpeting closely; if it doesn't match the interior or fits loosely, it may have been replaced. Discolored, faded or stained materials could indicate water damage.
* Turn the ignition key and make sure that accessory and warning lights and gauges come on and work properly. Make sure the airbag and ABS lights come on.
* Test lights (interior and exterior), windshield wipers, turn signals, cigarette lighter, radio, heater and air conditioner several times to make sure they work.
* Flex some of the wires beneath the dashboard. Wet wires will become brittle upon drying and may crack.
* Take a deep breath and smell for musty odors from mildew.
* Go to a trusted mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection. Always get vehicles checked BEFORE handing over any money.

There's has to be something very wrong with that S if the owner is even thinking about trading it for a prelude that still needs work. Yea you would toss him $800 to help for the fix, but that sends off a red flag on that S.
Get rid of the prelude, and find a decent, good condition s2000. That is, if you realllyyy must have and want an S.

Well having a 5th Gen too, I would think that it's a nice trade. Not the best trade, but worth it. Just make sure you inspect the car. Thoroughly (fluids, leaks, seals, engine noise, smell, etc)
You really have to ask yourself, are you gonna keep that S for a while? b/c obviously the resale value will be horrible.
Hate to see a fellow Lude owner part their car, but it's a decent step up.
Just make sure you get this trade on paper.

i don't understand the logic behind the insurance fraud claim that led to the rebuilt title. wouldn't the insurance company go out and examine the car before writing the check? also what was the guy's plan, make the claim, then take the check and run? or was he going to make the claim, take the check, then try buying the car back with the rebuilt title?

I noticed that.
I'm not gonna worry about it. Too much doesn't add up. Besides having my right door repainted and any body issues taken care of for less than a grand would increase my selling power a good 2 grand+.
I had been discouraged because of money issues slowing the build. Got it back with RHD+F20 in Jan, and it was supposed to be nearly done by now. Taxes got taken away, and I was garnished a huge amount, I'm out of close to 5K just this year but thats done so I can get the build back on the way soon.
