Default Ok to bake my valve cover?

Im just about done painting it. On the can it says I should bake my valve cover at 300 degrees for 2 hours, or 600 for 1 hour. Is this safe? I am using 1200 degree paint with ceramic, and I want a hard coat.

I think 300 would be ok, but personally, I would be concerned about cooking it at 600. I would be concerned about it warping. I mean, sure, the valve cover gets pretty damn hot when it is on the car, probably 300 or more on a hot day, BUT, it is bolted to the head which probably helps keep it from warping. I think 600 would be pushing the limit. Note, however, that I really don't know and this is pure conjecture.
Good luck amigo, and let us know how it turns out....

Ok, well it's obviously your call, but which is worse, warping the valve cover or getting warped by the 'rents? Ha ha....
enjoy your day bro.

ROTFL

I would do 300 also. Ovens only get 600 in the broiler don't they. Maybe you can do 450 for 1.5 hours.

*Thinking of parents coming home and asking what's for dinner *

Seeing how I used Dupli-Color High heat 1200 paint with ceramic...
Dupli-Color® High Heat Paint with Ceramic

Resists temperatures up to 1200 degrees F, intermittently
Durable ceramic formulation
Tough cured finish resists oil, gas grease, rust, salt, humidity, and solvents
6 colors
EZ Touch® Nozzle

Should I bother putting on a clear coat? The clear coat only comes in 500 degree, and not 1200 degree. Just wondering because it says the 1200 has a touch finish..

u guys relize there is no reason to use high temp paint really at all i mean it doesnt get that hot the 500 degree paint would have been overkill and u dont need to bake the 500 one teh 1200 is just rediculous and its gonna rub off if u dont bake it now...i would stip of all the apint and get regular 500 degree paint....ive seen people use regular old rustolium on valve covers before and no problems and i know for a fact that it never sees over 300 cause our pizza ovens are way hotter than my vavle cover ever is

You let your car idle for 2 hours? wtf you dumb ***! But i guess its worth it for a nice lookin valve cover!

For the record.. the cooling process for engines needs to have moving air.. when the car idles that long its horrible for the engine.. just thought i'd let ya know..

Ok, I may already be alittle late on this one.

Can you go through how exactly(and where) you applied the paint? Like where in your hood did you spray? Also, I didn't know you could use your conventional oven for baking hardcoats. **** if that's the case I'm going to repaint my car peice by peice, dammit! lol But I'd be interested in repainting my valve cover. Are there ventalation issues with doing that? Do you have pics yet, I'd love to see what you've done. Thanks.

uMM....Did you read above? i know I can use a conventional oven, you tell that to my parents tho. was in there for 15 mins, they came home, and had a ******* **** fit. So on my car it went the next day as for my car cooling, etc, whatever, I baked my valve cover on my car, my car still works, no harm done.
