DC5 Form and Function rear coils won't go down :(
Well i just got the function form type 2 coils on the dc5 and was planning to do height adjustments today. but, In order to adjust the rears you have to spin the two preload collars down till the spring is loose, so then you can thread the shock into the shock body. Only problem is I cant seem to get the shock to thread into the body anymore. Maybe im not giving it enough force or something. Has anyone had this problem and how did you get it to thread into the shock body? Im still sitting at a 4 finger gap
A picture might help.
Aside from that, it sounds like you don't have a fixed length damper, so there is no reason to remove the preload to adjust the ride height. Set the preload again, clean the threads, and adjust the damper length to where you want it.
And you don't "thread the shock into the shock body". You thread the shock body into the shock mount...

well with rsx's its different. the collars do not spin the shock body down. you have to spin the body down with your hand.

You have a shock mount that the body threads into, and on the body is the spring perch with locking nuts against the perch and mount.
First, loosen the bottom lock nut that should be snug against the lower shock mount and the lock nut against the spring perch. Then set the preload by adjusting the spring perch and snug the lock nut against the perch. Finally, set the ride height by adjust the shock body in the mount and snug the lock nut against the mount.
If the shock body is bottomed out in the mount, then you'll need to give up the preload to get lower.
I understand how a strut based suspension works. You missed the point there. On no suspension does moving a "collar" spin the shock body...

yea i was able to spin the shock body some but wasnt able to get enough grip on it after a while. i did set the preload back to spec after i was done doing that though. I am going to do the fronts tommorow then attempt the rears again tommorow. If i still cant get it to work i may try a vice grip to turn the body
Use the locked spring perch and the funky collar wrench to turn the shock body. Once the lock nut / jamb perch / whatever is locked in place, you should be able to use it that way.
here is a link to what i am talking about.

OP I would try a rubber strap wrench to see if that might turn the threaded shock body down farther into the shock housing.
While you could spin the shock housing up, that would involve unbolting the shocks from the rear suspension arms. Theoretically you could loosen the spring perch from the spring and spin the threaded shock body itself down into the shock housing, then spin the spring perches back up against the spring. I believe the OP's issue is that he can't get a grip on the threaded shock body.

Nah it's going to take something like a rubber strap wrench to get a grip on it without damaging the threads.
is this going to be an issue with FF coils for all rsx-s? im about to snag a set but if this is going to be a problem i might get something else.
