Default km/h to mph wire conversion

I have a gsr with jdm itr gauges. the speedometer reads only to 190km/h which is only 118.1mph. I was going to use the gsr speedo, but my buddy said that he has known people to just do a simple wiring change so that it runs in mph. He informed me that then the speedo should read up to 190mph. can this be done on the hondas? I am assuming yes, because I would design the circuit so the difference in velocity measured would run through a different valued resistor. I want to belive it is that easy. Does anyone know for sure if it has been done before, and how to do it?

Yes, people in the UK use a speedo converter when importing Japanese vehicles.
