Default b vs d shift linkage????

What are the most noticeable distinctions between the two linkages? My situation is when i have the b series extension rod not bolted on i can easily pull the linkage in and out of gears, but once i bolt on the extension rod it seems stuck in 3rd gear. My assumption is that I have the correct b series extension rod but the linkage maybe a d series. Anyone who can help me out with any info on how to distinct them from each other would be great.

maybe the bolt is too long or the linkage is bent and with bolt it aligns it to go in the correct way try getting a new lingage or inspect yours side by side with another one to see the difference.
