1992 Civic LX Thermostat Gauge MAXED OUT
I think some of you may have seen me around this forum already with this car... if not, here's the spiel: I have a 1992 Civic LX sedan that I helped my girlfriend get (at the time it didn't run) and my dad and I are fixing it up for her. After many long weekends we have done:
-spark plugs
-battery
-ignition unit
-fuel filter
-air filter
-fuel main relay
-timing belt
-ECU (this finally got the car to start up)
-muffler patch up (it had some holes in it, we're going to replace it soon)
-head, exhaust, and intake gasket replacement
-front brakes
-thermostat
After all this, there's still one thing we can't figure out: the thermostat gauge is always MAXED OUT. I have read that the thermostat and fuel gauge are on the same fuse, but the fuel gauge is ok. The coolant is fine (we just topped it off today) and the thermostat itself is new (installed correctly). We've done our research and can't find anything about the thermostat gauge being maxed out all the time. I've read about the gauge going up and down and all that, but none about it being maxed out.
My dad is thinking that it's the thermostat sensor that might be bad, but we want to be absolutely sure. If it means anything, we let the car idle for about 10 minutes with the revs at 2500rpm (while trying to get the fan to come on so we could bleed the coolant; turns out the coolant was fine). The fan never came on and we've never seen or heard the fan come on of all the times we've had the car on.

just check the one prong wire/connector that is under the dizzy, i think its yellow and green or something but ive had that problem several times and that has ALWAYS been the culprate for me haha. make sure its not all dirty or melted or anything. if it is just attach a butt connector to it..
