Icon6 Need help ASAP

So car heated up today. Turned on the heater so it could cool down since i was driving. Air was coming out cold after a while it came out hot. Is the thermostat bad and has to be changed? Any other things that would cause it to heat up?

Fan seems to be working will double check. As far as the coolant it was filled it heated up earlier yesterday. Car was just on for about 5 minutes and needle started going up. I put coolant in it. Later on drove for a couple miles car was good. Then came from Vegas to California car was good all the way until we were almost here. Car just started overheating pulled over let it cool down. Drove put the heater on just to be safe air was cooled as soon as it was throwing out hot air it started cooling down this happened a couple of times. Will check everything today as we suppose to be on vacation. Thanks for the help will let you know what happens.

Changed thermostat car was working good. Drove about an hour still good. Drove again about an hour still good. Coming back about one and a half hours good all the way till I almost got here. I'm thinking its the fan takes a while to kick in. How long does it suppose to be till the fan kicks in?

Pressure test the system to find any leaks.
Make sure that you have bled all air pockets out of the system.

If the fan switch is working correctly, the fan should come on between 196-203 °F.

Unfortunately, there is no bleed screw.

You could try parking on a slight incline and burping the system with the radiator loosely on, but I've found it best to use one of these.

Google LIS24610 to find one online, or check your local auto parts stores.

If you were leaking through the radiator, maybe. But you should be able to see a leak in the radiator.

Then your radiator is fine. Please see the link I posted in my first response. It seems as though you're missing several checkpoints when attempting to diagnose your car.

Okay this is the list that i came up with.
-The temp. gauge is beyond normal operating temp.(This only happene's when i drive for a long time 1 or more hour's so burn's/ivaporate's coolant).
-Car's performance is still the same but car feel's a little heavy (This is what my girl said).
-Car has no problem reving passed 4,000 rpm.
-NO smoke black or white.
-It is losing coolant (When i drive for a long time).
-It does smell like burning coolant from time to time.
-Heater works but sometime's is blow's cold air then later on blow's hot air.
-Oil does'nt seem to be milky look's like new oil (This is because i just did the oil change the same day we went to the trip lol).
-Changed the thermostat
-No leak's or so it seem's have not seen any coolant on ground car is always parked at the same place every day.
-Fan turn's on
-About the bubble's i dont know i made sure to try and get as much much as the air bubbles as i could.
-Clugged heater core i dont know how coold i tell. I know i would have to take the hose's off put to check if its clogged?
-How would i check to see if the water pump is working?
-How would i check or know is the radiator clogged?
Car has not over heated i conected the fan to turn on when the car ignition is on or the car is on.

It's real simple.

No external leaks, but still losing coolant = blown head gasket.

If you're losing coolant, and it's not because of a leak, it can only be going one place ... into the engine and vaporizing.

Fix it before it gets worse.

Sounds like a typical ballpark estimate. I wouldn't personally know, because I do my own work.

Then what else would it be?

If the coolant isn't leaking, and it isn't bypassing a blown gasket, where else would it be going?

A blown gasket is the most-probable cause of his coolant loss, intermittent heater failure, smelling coolant as he's driving, etc. etc.

It hasnt over heated since i hooked up the fans direct. I took it to the shop they said it was the head gasket. One of the hoses gets hot and the other doesnt it stays cool.

If one hose isn't ever heating up, you either have an air pocket or the thermostat is not opening up properly.

I've returned home from ~30 (highway/freeway) mile trips and have found the bottom radiator hose to be cold.

However, after turning the vehicle off, or while letting it idle / stuck in traffic / sitting in a drive-thru, only then does the bottom radiator hose actually get hot and the fan comes on.

New thermostat, too. I thought the old one was bad because of what was going on.

No air bubbles, either. I thoroughly bled the system when I did a coolant change.

Heater works great, all the time.

Temperature gauge never passes just below the middle-point. (normal operating temp)

I still say your gasket is bad. There's no other reason to be losing coolant with no evidence of a leak.

How much coolant are you losing, though? And how often are you having to add more?

Honestly i dont know but i would have to say about 1 liter. There is alot of pressure when taking off the cap. As far as how often its only when driving a long distance.

Im going to put some coolant in if it takes it. Turn it on normal with fans connected on right. Leave it on and see what happenes will let you know if it over heats, loses coolant, hoses hot/cold, leaks or anything else that i can see.
