has anyone ever donw 3 stage vtec swap with upgradesc or something to no the outcome
vtec on a d isnt that huge of a deal, and having 3 vtak stages might sound better, but its not.. if your trying to boost.. just boost your y8, no point of spending extra money to have the same starting platform.

But vtec is basically like a turbo for our engines!! That's why they're so fast!!!
OP: Just boost it. Leave the current engine in there. Your money/time would be better spend on a compression test and a turbo cam.
Make sure you get a good tune.

welll i have about 200k miles and the timing belt is gona almost go and i think my head gasket and i got the lovley 3rd gear grind
so my local shop siad theyl give me 400 for my motor and tranny and my boy said hes got a long gear tranny for me for 250 installed so i get the 3 stage motor for 600 tranny 250 install 250 that minus 400 wich eauals 700 for the swap and 300 for a turbo kit and i saw a guy runnig a averge of 54 mpg and at 12 pounds of boost 230 whp that prety beast but i only want about 8 pounds of boost

your lucky to get a turbo that wont blow its seals for under 300bucks, let alone an entire kit man.. dont forget the 500 bucks to get it tuned, and yeah you might get 50mpg if you never boost, but once you do your dumping more fuel its not gonna be efficient, you dont boost your car to get better gas mileage
well its a used kit the turbo is from a saab or a vovol and i want is to be kina sleeprish
but hears the lin k that gave me the idea

Did you say $300 and boost in the same sentence? Even if you got the turbo kit for free I doubt you can get it tuned for that.
You need a manifold, injectors, engine management and a whole mess of other parts that aren't to be found on your Volvo.

well thats true but im n0t gona boost it right off the bat maybe in a year or less i just want to be like od sleeper side mounts intercooler t25 turbo
Yeah a 14B on say 14PSI or so would be fine a stock motor, just get a good tune ull be well within the engine HP numbers
im somewhat new to the forum, always on here but not really posting, just reading. Been around hondas for like 10 years, but by no means a pro at swaps. can someone tell me what the hell a 3 stage vtec is?
Stage 1 - VTEC-E
VTEC-E (economy) was designed to achieve better fuel economy, at the cost of performance. The engine operates in "12 valve mode", where one intake valve per cylinder in the 16-valve engine remains mostly closed to attain lean burn. The lean burn mode gets the air to fuel ratio above the 14.7:1 stoichiometric ratio and thus enables extra fuel saving. It is said that the valve which remains partially closed allows fuel to drip into the combustion chamber before ignition, which helps the leaner gas/air mixture to burn within the compressed cylinder, reducing hot spots from occurring atop the piston or valves. This creates a turbulent "swirling" in the air/gas mixture which improves combustion. An average of 30 km/l 30 km/l (70.6 mpg-US) can be achieved while in lean burn at a constant speed of 60 km/h (37 mph).
Stage 2
From ~2500–6000 rpm, all of the engine's intake valves are used. The engine now operates like a normal fixed timing 16 valve engine.
Stage 3 - VTEC
From ~6000 RPM to the rev limiter, the engine's VTEC wild cam lobe is engaged, increasing performance and fuel consumption.

The 3-stage is actually a very popular choice for boost in the Philippines where it is more commonly found than in the states. The wild cam lobe on the 3-stage is also the most aggressive of all the oem d-series cams. That said, you would probably be better off rebuilding your y8 for boost if you're looking for a cheap route to power. Yes the claims of 54 mpg on 12 lbs are true, but he messed with the lean burn mode so that the car would run as lean as possible. Lean burn mode only engages below 3500 rpms and only when you are driving at a steady rate. My point is that you won't get as good of mileage as you think. Boosting an engine does increase mpg if you aren't hitting boost, but in the long run it will increase it unless you drive like my grandma. And definitely do some more research on turbo'ing because it is very expensive when you figure in the mechanical parts, electronics, AND the tune.
this is aswome idk i just dont like the y8 at alll idk y and i always wanted to be the odd ball lol with no non us motor on boost super sleeper and idk wat u guys think of that
