Default 89 HF with d16a6 swap + pm6 ecu - won't start

Hey guys, newbie here

First off, props to the honda community on their extensive info about these swaps. However, after a bunch of searches on many sites, I still can't find someone that's been in my situation.

I have an '89 HF, and started a jdm d16a6 swap. I bought the motor from nippon-motors.com, and they sent me a carbed d16a6. No problem there, I swapped over the intake and exhaust and dizzy without a hitch.

Here's the thing - it runs fine with the hf ecu. The problem: it won't start with the pm6 that I bought from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

My questions: Shouldn't this ecu swap be plug-and-play? Like I said, it runs fine with the hf ecu. Do I just need to ask the ebay seller for a refund/replacement pm6?

On another note, I also just bought the intake/injectors/throttle body from a d16a6 to round off the package.

Thanks for any help!

Anyone else?

Took her on the highway yesterday with the hf ecu, and it runs terrible. The car will stall and stutter under power, but if I mash the throttle to WOT, it wakes up and runs smooth for a while. I had to keep it over 2,500 rpm just so it would stay up to speed.

Just to be more clear, here's what I'm running:

HF harness
HF ecu
HF tranny
HF intake
HF dizzy

SOHC ZC d16a6, originally carbed (switched to HF intake)

Switching the PM6 that I have into this setup, the car won't start.

With the HF ecu, the CEL didn't come on until I took it on the highway and hit the throttle hard. The code is 1 blink - o2 sensor - and the light goes away after turning the car off. I'm going to get a timing light tonight and make sure it's timed right, and hopefully that will get it running good enough to drive until the SI intake/injectors/tb come in the mail.

This still doesn't explain why it won't even start with the si ecu. I'm really curious if this is supposed to be plug-and play using the hf harness/intake on this motor. If it is, then I'll just have to see how good this guy's customer service is. If it isn't, then I'll try again after swapping the SI intake onto the motor.

Thanks for the replies!

I checked the timing last night, and it's spot-on. With the carbed motor, there's a red mark on the pulley that lines up with the mark on the timing cover. I got it warmed up and hooked up the light; the timing is as close as I could ask for.

For the sake of exhausting possibilities, and that my SI intake won't be here for about a week, I'm going to put in a new O2 sensor tonight. It has the warning signs - surges/hesitation - but it doesn't do it all the time. But, I might as well do it since the part is only $20. Rinse/repeat hooking up the hf ecu and then the pm6, and I'll let you guys know how it goes and what works.

Of course, I'd still appreciate a "it works on my car" from anyone with a hf ecu/harness/intake on a d16a6.

Thanks for reading.

An HF only has 8 valves correct? Is it MPFI or DPFI? If it is DPFI the PM6 ecu will not work till you get the MPFI swap done.
