Koni yellow/GC combo help

Default Koni yellow/GC combo help

so i have a 96 civic dx and im planning to lower the car soon. i did some reading around ht and notice that this seem to be the best set up for DD and it $$. Now i was looking around GC site and notice that eibach and gc are the same(i think?). So for this combo do i need the GC coilover sleeve or does the eibach spring work fine(cheaper)? im look forward for a 1.5-2in drop only and where i live have horrible road so i would like a comfort ride with a some handling in it if possible.
any input would be nice and bare with me if it hard to understand im a noob at this

P.s if possible can u supply a link to where to get koni and gc cheap. i notice a few site with different price or do i have to order directly from their site to get the warranty

Ground-Control USES Eibach springs with their sleeves. So when you buy the coilover from Ground-Control for $300 you are getting their sleeves with Eibach springs on it. The springs on Ground-Controls website that you are probably looking at are for indiviudal springs for their coilovers. These have different springs rates and sizes(sold for $~70 each). These springs will NOT work with a normal shock and are not intended to be used just as a lowering spring.

Sounds like you would probably be fine using Ground-Controls suggested spring rates for the Civic which would give you the best ride quality.

Check out the forum vendors, there are some on here that offer the Koni/GC for a good price.

thanks for the input speedy. Going to call GC tomorrow and see if they can recommend spring rate for my road condition. how do these spring rate work tho? the higher the stiffer? and what is it with the 8/6k" spring or that doesnt make much of a different?

Yes the higher the number, the stiffer the spring.

8k and 6k are common spring rates used by some companies. The letter "k" is short for kg/mm(kilograms per millimeter). By that they mean it take 8kg of pressure to compress the springs 1mm. Or 6kg to compress 1mm. If you go up to 10k, that means it takes 10kg to compress the springs 1mm, meaning more pressure is needed to compress the spring the same amount which in turn means stiffer.

Some people also use lbs/in(pounds per inch) to refer to spring rates. For example, 350lbs of pressure to compress the spring 1in. Same process. Say you have a 500 lbs/in spring rate. That means it takes 500lbs of pressure to compress the spring 1in, meaning more pressure is needed than the 350 to compress the spring the same 1in which means it's a stiffer spring. Ground-Control uses these units for the Eibach springs they use/sell.

There is also a conversion so you can compare the two units to eachother.

I use a multiplier and divider of .0179 to convert the numbers. Here are some examples:

6kg/mm spring rates = ~335lbs/in spring rates (6/.0179=335.19)
8kg/mm spring rates = ~446lbs/in spring rates (8/.0179=446.92)
10kg/mm spring rates = ~558lbs/in spring rates (10/.0179=558.65)

350lbs/in spring rates = ~6kg/mm spring rates (350x.0179=6.26)
400lbs/in spring rates = ~7kg/mm spring rates (400x.0179=7.16)
450lbs/in spring rates = ~8kg/mm spring rates (450x.0179=8.05)
550lbs/in spring rates = ~10kg/mm spring rates (550x.0179=9.84)


Calling Ground-Control and telling them what the car is used for and also what shocks you will be using is a very good way to get the right spring rates.
