Default wheel bearing gone bad?

theres this loud noise coming from my right front wheel area. sounds like a helicopter...kinda. the sound gets louder when I'm going arounf corners or higher speed turns ( onramps ect.)

I tried rotating the wheels , put each one up there , even tried my stocks and the noise persists. there's no sign of any parts rubbing and my CV boots look good. I got my tires balanced and but there is a slight vibration that goes along with the sound.

A friend of mine told me it was probably a bearing gone bad. my car is a 98 with 117,000 miles on most of them hard driving (I have a thing for canyon passes)

if it is a bearing how much and how hard are they to replace?

thanks guys

It really depends on how machanically inclined you are. And if you have the propper tools to do the job. But overall it's not very hard to replace. I would suggest getting a whole arm along with the wheel bearing/ hub. This way you won't have to go to a shop to press the old bearing out. A used arm/wheel hub assembly would prob rum you 60-75 bucks.

Also i would double check your CV boots and the whole axle. the bearings in the axle might be bad.

thats kinda what I was thinking. I might as well just buy some GSR arms?brakes and upgrade to bigger brakes while I'm at it.

just hope those bearing aren't bad too.

The only problem with used assemblys is that the bearing has sat outside in a salvage yard for god knows how many years, getting rained on, snowed on (depending on location), etc. To get an idea if it is the wheel bearing, jack up the right front of the car, and test the play in the wheel. Try to "shake" the wheel, grasping it at the top and bottom, if there is any play, it's probably the bearing, but by the sound that you've described, it certainly sounds like the culprit.
