h22 boost questions (BUILD)
im gonna be building a h22 turbo. dont wanna make too much power just like 300hp or 400hp to the wheels.. 6-10 psi for now as i dont wanna resleeve the block. maybe some mahle pistons cams, cam gears, intake manifold, injectors, fuel rail, fpr, im going with the garrett turbo charger, maybe a gt1548, or gt25r. but i want some opinions from people who have actually boosted their h22's and not opinions on wether to boost it or not, what are some pointers i should look out for when boosting??
i made 301 whp and 263 wtq on 10 psi on a bone stock h22a in my del sol that i daily... could defiantly make more with a 3" exhaust!!! u dont really need to build the motor if ur lookin around 300-350whp just make sure u get a good tune!! one thing i would suggest is doing the h23 timing belt conversion my auto tensioner went on me like a week after i got tuned...
my set up is:
94 JDM H22a
Spoolin Performance log mani
2.5" turbo back exhaust (no cat)
tail 38 wg
tial 50 bov
spoolin ic piping
walbro 255
aem rail
prcision 680cc
gm 3 bar
garrette t3/t4 60trim
30x9x3 intercooler
tuned on obd1 p28 w/ neptune

I just boosted my b18c that is a built 83mm, so its like 1924cc or something. I am running a gt35r and was really worried about lag I just went with what my tuner said. Well it starts to make boost at about 2900 rpms full boost by 5500 real close to when vtec kicks, it feels really good like that. The smallest turbo I would run would be a gt30r or precision 5857. With your motor being larger your going to spool sooner and also have a little room to grow with a larger turbo. btw I made 380whp at 9100 and about 250 torque forget the rpm with 12lbs with a 2 1/2 inch exhaust. Things to look out for make sure your fuel system is 100%. I had my first pump go out walbro 255 got another one and my pressure was better but still not enough at boost above 12psi, so installed 10gauge wire It seems to be better now will find out next week at the tuner.
gsr itm thats whats up ill be straight with that much power until i can save up and do it right. i was thinking on buying a ebay turbo kit just so i can have all the line, intercooler, piping, etc and sell the turbo and the blow off valve and get what i want. def want a garrett turbo charger but not sure which one yet. MET thats some nice power but i just want some boost for now till i can sleeve it and do it right but slowly but sureley im gonna get everything i need to completely 100% rebuild it and push like 22psi and make some good power. im def getting arp head studs and rod bolts that im getting b4 boosting it no matter what. soo how long has ur motor lasted on 10psi? i wont be beating on it all the time just everynow and then like once or twice a week. but i have a question. will the ebay piping and lines intercooler be ok if i just replace the turbo and blow off valve or should i take another route?

i have put just over 3k on it so far had not one issue besides the timing belt tensioner... the car runs pretty much like stock and decent gas mileage still around 25mpg... i bought the swap from jdmenginedepot.com and did nothing to it other then the timing belt, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket set and competition clutch other then that its bone stock! ooo and i removed the butterfly plate from the intake manifold...

Save your pennies and do it right. Even on modest boost and a good tune, H22 piston ringlands are just a ticking time bomb. My stock bottom end lasted about two years until the ringlands cracked from the pistons, then full bottom end rebuild was necessary. If it's going to be your daily driver, I'd save the money and do it right.
yeah ive got most of everything priced out for sleeving and rebuilding the motor 100% i just need some help on what to get as in compression wise and brand wise. until i have everything i need in my possesion to run like 16-20psi im leaving it at 10psi or below.
Making 750 WHP 575 TQ on a motor I threw a rod out of and welded the hole up. Fully buiilt though. Had a BONE STOCK H22A with a SC6176 on it make 400 for over a year beaten to pissola too...
for 300whp range you dont need to do pistons/rods in that motor. it wont take much to get to that hp level. now a gt15 is going to choke the crap out of that engine. smallest i would go is gt2871r with a big exhaust housing. even then id go with a larger turbo

I would it will leave you room to grow, and if anything Like I said, tha thing lit up too fast. I have some more vids of Mitches car... He wouldnt give a **** about sharing them. He ran The 30R for a while as it spooled sick nasty. Youll get to 520 or thereabouts when the stock block wont be enough anymore too... ;O)
yeah the 30r would be a great turbo for an H22. I would run a .82 turbine housing to get the extra exhaust flow up top and with the 2.2l it will still spool like crazy
ok cool so the 30r it is then. cuz im gonna buy a complete ebay turbo kit and sell the turbo bov and go get the 30r and im deciding on a good sounding bov. and the vids would be great.
Personally I wouldnt putt smaller than a 61MM variant on a H (And havent had smaller than a 61MM) As the displacement really spools the crap oput of them.... IMO the 30R was a bit too violent when it came on and pooped out before I got where Iwanted to be, but I wnted 600+. I started with a PT67SP (T4 version ofan SC 61), and made 520 WHP at 17 PSI on pump 92. It was a little laggier than the 30 R on Mitches but I didnt care as It lit the hell up quick still... I now have a T04ZR on it (67mm T4 DBB) and it comes on like a lightswitch at 5K and has solid power all the way to 9K.
With your goals ID still say tha the 30 R is the best turbo though.
Just know that any 61mm turbo will still nt be laggy on the H

yeah i dont think i wanna make that much hp lol as it is gonna be a daily driver till i get my bike. but yes ALOT of info has come in, more then what i thought wouldve came in. this is also a build thread so any input on what internals i should use would be helpful also as this would be my first build.
