d15b1 with v-tec with mpfi ??
If you are swapping on a vtec (not v-tec) head, then you will want to convert to obd1 and run an obd1 p28. odb0 pm6 ecu will not work. google search mini me swap
do i have to use obd1? i found a car in junkyard with d15z1 but it had pm6 so now im confused i did notice the distributor wasnt bolted up right. can i run vtec solenoid off a rpm switch or even a toggle switch if i dont go to obd1. thx for the help
you could run it off a switch but basically you're just getting the noise and no real power gain. the vtec ecu has the proper fuel trims that change over when vtec engages. Just flipping it on with an rpm switch is kind of stupid really.
kind of a waste of time IMO, but to each his own.
most dseries vtecs that ive seen have more problems than not.
i have a pm6 ecu on my d15b2 with mpfi. its pretty quick but im just gonna drop a b18 in it.
& as far as a circle track car i dont think that combo is gonna do what ur looking for it to do.
just my personal opinion w/e thats worth

im mainly lookin for some cheap power. i could get all the parts for less than a hundred bucks. or u think mpfi and a race cam with my head would be a better option?

Cheap power isn't reliable unless you really know what you're doing, or are graced with luck.
1) Convert your car to MPFI (search for this, 100's of guides out there)
2) decide, D series or B series? More options for B, but D is cheaper somewhat.
3) Vtec, boost, what are your plans? What's your budget???
mpfi is better than vtec IMO
but for the wiring trouble youre going thru you could drop a motor in for 1500 bux if you did al the work yourself.
mine had the mpfi when i got it all you need is a PM6 & a little wiring for the injectors.
ill tell you it "FEELS" like a 20 HP gain vs a stock dpfi. ive had both..
ive got d15b2 with mpfi, no cat, stainless 4-2-1 header, CAI, short shifter & thats about all that REALLY effects performance.. im happy with it. but i purchased a 92 integra with a b18b1 for $400 im pulling almost all the parts out & selling what i dont need. ill have to buy
shift linkage($150)
mounts (50-350) more like 150+ for halfway decent mounts
wiring ecu ect... ($75) .. most of this is coming with the car
the motor ($400).. but that includes parts for rear disc swap & the rest of the car.
im hoping to get a tranny f0r around ($300)
so all & all about 1500 bucks
but if you dont have the cash i will be selling my motor & tranny (unless i can find info on b2d or is it d2b swaps
so ive got the following parts for ur motor.
mpfi setup complete
d15b2 motor
painted valve cover (adds 10 hp) lmao
stainless 4-2-1 header
full cat delete exhaust with tanabe muffler attached (welded unfortunately)
ive got the whole car But im only selling what i will be replacing w/ b series swap.
lmk ive got 2 EF's & one 92 jdm integra worth of parts.

the car is an std and is actually my brothers which he just lost his job so budget it tight. aint really lookin to swap motors unless this one blows. aint allowed any boost or computer tuning. already got cai. might go with ebay header. i know vtec head will help with compression but will a non-vtec with a good cam outflow a vtec? only paid two hundred for car so just trying to keep it cheap and simple for now
from what ive been told the vtec head flows better but they are less reliable & you will almost never see the power vs a cam adjustment.
ide go mpfi with a header personally
ide go mpfi with a header personally
I don't know what you are all talking about vtec being less reliable. And in order to use a vtec head you have to go mpfi anyway. The vtec head will give you more power and you will have the added mpfi on top of that. As far as reliability is concerned just make sure you build it right and you should have no problems. I would personally convert to obd1 and run a p28 ecu because it will have better power and more response than an obd0 vtec with a switch, unless you are getting tuned or know how you use software like turbo edit. Good luck man.
i ate my neighbors sohc vtec 92 sedan with my 91 ef d15b2 mpfi
both had the same header, both manuals, both mpfi, his was vtec. i outshifted him and thats all there was too it.
vtec might help you in the long pull but off the line its useless.

do you even really know what vtec does!??
Hell, with my old CRX Si, just because of the short geared transmission... that thing was zippy off the line. Not fast, zippy.
VTEC head flows better. Valves open more + stay open longer thanks to it. I wonder how that magically makes it worse than your "beast"
so you faced a heavier vehicle with basically the same motor, that's your reasoning for saying vtec is useless???
