Want tailights like these...
I love these red/smoked tailights. Anyone know the procedure for painting them? Like I need to know how to get them so shiny looking and not flat. I have a set of clear tails that I wanna practice on. Any positive input would be appreciated.

Testors #1605 Candy Apple Red transparent paint, easily found in hobby stores.
I practiced on a set of clears beforehand also. Okay, make sure the taillight lens are completely clear of dirt and grime, dry them off completely and you are ready to start painting. Try not to use anything too strong on the taillights that make counteract the ability of the paint to hold to the surface of the lights. If you are doing sections of the taillights then tape off those particular areas. Try to positon the taillights where they will set parallel to the ground/even to prevent dripping. Keep them in a position where you will not need to pick them up until you are completely finished painting them. (read the directions) Shake the can well and begin spraying. Use thin, light coats over the taillight. It will probably not be quite as red as you like the first spray though, allow at least 2 hours to an hour of drying time, then return back and spray another thin coat over the taillights, repeat this until you get the deserved effect. (If you spray heavy coats, the taillghts will drip and appear uneven). After about 3-5+ coats, it would be best to allow it to dry and spray on a few coats of clearcoat to seal the paint. I suggest allowing them to dry overnight before handling them or putting them on your car.

Talk to some body shops in your area and see how much they'll charge you to spray your tails candy red with a clear coat. Comes out much nicer than spray paint and shouldn't cost you more than $20.
just go to a hobby shop and buy Testors transparent red (dont remember the exact name) its like 2 bux and it will do about 6-8 pairs of tail lights
My friend did it to his 98 civic lights. They faded, and now look pink, dont waste your time. But if you do, BE SURE and buy CANDY APPLE RED taillight PAINT. Any other red will look pink.
Chris Stein did it, dunno his name on the board. 95 teggy, turbo. Talk to him.

i think the tail lights look good, but they will fade over time no matter what you do and then they will look tacky. I painted my clears half red and sprayed a bunch of think coats on there and a buch of clear coat layers and they still faded in a couple months. I just went back to stock tails.
