Default 1998 ek hatch turbo build (slow progress)

After driving it bone stock for almost 2 years, and going through many different build ideas. I finally decided what i was going to do with the car and started my build. this car will eventually be running in the true street class next year i 2012. for now its a stock sleeve turbo set up. just looking to break 10's on a motor i complete build with my own hands for the first time (except for the machine work of course).

this is pretty much the breakdown of the set up.

shell:
1998 honda civic DX hatchback (originally black, but i will be painting it tahitian green pearl)

Motor:

B16 Head:
stock ports
full supertech valvetrain
skunk2 pro 1 cams
skunk2 pro series cam gears
victor-x manifold
bdl 72mm throttle body
skunk2 composite fuel rail
injector dynamics injectors (most likely 2000cc since the skip from 1000 to 2000, and ill be running E85)

B18c (GSR) block:
81.5mm
golden eagle block guard
Ls crank
golden eagle oil squirters removal kit
Manley H-beam Rods
Wiseco 9.8:1 pistons
Hastings piston rings
ACL race main and rod bearings
clevite thrust washers
ITR oil pump
ITR water pump
ATI street balance crank pulley

Tranny:
GSR
oem LSD
4.4 Final drive
SpeedFactory Modified Shift Change Holder Assembly
exedy twin disc
drive shaft shop axles

turbo set-up:
RLD T3 Top-Mount
AFI 3" Downpipe
AFI dumptube
44mm Tial wastegate
50mm Tial BOV
GO-AUTOWORKS 850hp intercooler
precision 6262S .82A/R (will upgrade to 67mm turbo when 6262 is maxed out and motor is sleeved)

I know i am missing more stuff to list. this is just a basic run down for now. i will updating the thread soon and adding pics.

currently shooting for 450-510whp with this set up. looking to finish by end of august, but things always go wrong so that may not be the real time ill finish.

feel free to leave comments and opinions.

The hatch being washed one last time before the teardown began.

the teardown

some free time at work so i cleaned the block and washed before taking it to the machine shop.

wrapped up and ready to go for machining

internals came in, and off to the machine shop it all went for bore to 81.5mm, hone, block guard install, and decking the block.

LS crank

while motor was at the machine shop, some more parts came in and i acquired a new daily driver. great grab for carrying parts, towing my hatch later on and for the snow of course:
RLD FAB FTW!!!

my daily

set-up an ecu with moates hulog and ostrich to make my own chips with base maps or even street tune to make extra money after work.

block came back from the machine shop and i also scored a b16 head in good condition for a great price.

Looks like an awesome build! I'm putting together a setup very similar to yours also in a hatch that should be done in the next week or two. Definitely subscribed. Love the manifold

im a big fan of these type of threads. now i finally get to do my own. im very excited about this build. 1 its my biggest build to date, and 2 because im an upcoming aspiring builder and tuner who is still learning, but has decided to venture to building his own motor as well as tuning it. im always bugging some of the bigger named guys such as chris from xenocron and brandon from low budget tuning. they are great help and very supportive.

Havent been able to do much work in the hatch these last 2 weeks, but I got some goodies in. ill be posting more pics tonight. On another note, I cant seem to decide whether to get a 70mm or a 72mm throttle body. What do you guys think? Keep in mind this car will become a true street car next year. I will be doing a bigger sleeved set up once the season is over and winter comes back.

I dont know about HF tooling but I'm sure they'll be fine in the short term. Its when you want the mic to be perfectly accurate over extended usage when you'll have wear issues witht he cheap stuff.... that is assuming the HF stuff is made to some sort of standard and is accurate in the first place.

As for snapon, Mitutoyo is where its at for measuring accuracy and highest quality.

Anyway nice build, steam clean cabinet looks handy for the block. Is that block painted too?

what turbo are you running?

excuse the delay on the updates. been very busy with work. will try to add pics of the valvetrain that came in, the polished victor-x, and the jdm gsr with lsd tranny i acquired. other then that i spoke to a few of the older guys at work who have experience building engines. i was told as long as i only plan on using the cheaper micrometers for this one build only i should be ok. its when people tend to re-use them that they have false readings because of internal parts wearing out. that being said im ordering a set of micrometers this weekend and beginning to assemble my botom end. by the way who is attending spring nationals at raceway park enlgish town may 1st? my team has 1 car for sure going, possibly 2 if we get the other one done in time.

yeah your car is running real good for the first time out. i know there always little bugs to work out, and there is only room for improvement. you plan on putting a cage in anytime soon? i wanted to put a cage in and paint my car and everything but i kinda want to get it out first and if anything do all that later when i take the motor out to sleeve it.
