Default How to: remove aftrmarket deck from a 2001 civic coupe LX

I tried searching, but couldn't find anything. Like the title says, how do I remove the headunit? I don't have any special tools. I just need to know if I can get to it through the dash somehow? I'm helping a friend of mine out, so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I know on the 96-00 civics you have to take off the console underneath the radio and take 4 screws out of the bottom of the radio console but thats if u want to go through all that what i did was found another way in behind the deck and pushed the stock deck out it doesn't give you much room to work with the wiring but enough to get it done. other than that your best bet is to look at the manual that came with the car or just buy a chilton's or something and look up radio removal. hope that helps

1. Remove the trim panel beneath the radio...the one with the cigarette lighter
2. Remove two silver 8mm bolts above and behind that panel
3. Pull the entire assembly with the radio out...the entire center black panel

should be easy once you get to that point...sometimes I drop the glove box and push the radio assembly with a panel popper or screwdriver from behind, cause the clips can often be stuck in the dash pretty good.
