I Bought the car used from a mazda dealership and it had a tear in the top, they replaced the top when I bought it at the affiliate honda dealership..

They told me it needs to "strech" but I had the same issue, the gentleman told me that i should wait afew days before I put the top down..

I waited and I still seem to have a small gap when closing, but it does seem to be going away even though it has been about 2 or 3 weeks since it was replaced...

Initially there was a gap around 4 inches to the top of the windshield and I would have to pull it down by hand with a decent amount of effort in order for it to close, but now it maybe sits an inch or half of an inch and I still have to pull it down but it is not nearly as bad anymore..

Im thinking since its new it just needs to adjust to the car

Post pictures of the gap and we will let you know if it's normal. On mine, I have to pull down on it about a inch and then latch the catchers.

is there anyway to adjust the straps without having to pull the whole thing apart?

nope. no way. theyre suppose to be elastic straps anyways and theyre riveted down. unless the top was replaced and wrong straps were installed.

my straps are basically not there because i installed the wrong ones when i replaced my top. i never had your issue but i just have to help the top fold down everytime i wanna drop the top...not a big issue for me.
