96' Ex wont pass 63 mph? Plz help!
Hey guys, im sorta new to the "thread posting" since i only use honda tech for info. But last night i ran into an issue...On the way to the dragstrip near my house, a 94 accord lines up besides me and wanted to race, im stock besides a cold air intake (and im automatic), well my brother said to go for it, so we both floored our cars at the same time, and when i reached 63mph, the rpm just stopped at 5000-5500 rpm, and wouldnt pass 63 mph, and sounded like it was red lining
...anyone know whats wrong with my car? i doubt its a speed governor or something like that..
i really dont want to buy a new tranny if thats the case...

My buddys 99ex did something similar to that after he put a new motor in. It was was a wrong plug that was plugged into the vtec solenoid. There was 2 connectors that could plug into the solenoid, so we just swapped them and it fixed the problem.
vtec shouldnt allow you to not go over 5500 rpms. If vtec is not engaging the only thing that changes is that the rocker arms is never engaged to hit the vtech cam lobe. Instead the rocker arms just stay on the primary cam lobes like a motor with no vtec to begin with. The car will just drive like its a non-vtec motor
Also, your PCM is stock right??? It could be knock sensor or O2 but if your not throwing any codes than thats not the problem.
