Default 01 transmission...great

so heres my problem. i dont remember exactly when but some time over the winter my tranny started slipping. its a 2001 auto in an ex and i got 140k out of it. it wasnt too bad at first than became worse but still drivable. my original plan was to rebuild it over the summer so i could ride my bike to work. but i just started a new job on monday which added 60 miles to my daily commute and also rules out riding to work. any way with that said on tuesday my cel came on for p0740 and i was like f it im just gonna swap it. so i found a tranny from an 05 ex with 55k.
form what i read on various forums the 04-05 tranny is better. my question is what did honda change in it to make it more reliable?
and should i get an tranny cooler to keep the temp down and an external filter for added filtration and ease of service if so any recomendations or is that not necessary? thanks in advance, steve

Your car already has an external ATF cooler. No need for an additional one.

IIRC, Honda changed the internals on the 04-05 transmission with higher quality parts than the 01-03, making them a little more reliable.

I don't know this for a fact, I've never asked Honda, I've only read it online.

I've read the same thing as far as the internals. And the change in the tranny code would lead me to believe that also. But as far as the cooler goes I font want to do anything huge just a small one to keep the temp down slightly because heat kills autos. What are your feelings on an external filter though. I figure it can't hurt anything. But I want to hear what other people say before I go ahead and do that.
