Default 98 civic lx - battery and cluster indicator light problems

i have a 98 civic lx with a d16y7 completely stock. withought a charger on the battery i turn the key and the main relay just clicks non stop and also the check engine light goes on along with the light showing its in drive even though the park light is on (as it is in park). i hook the charger up and put it to engine crank and then turn the key and no clicking from the main relay but the engine light and drive light go on and then turn off. what could it be that its doing that?

You are likely hearing the starter solenoid clicking. Start by having the battery tested, recharged, and/or replaced.

it is an automatic.
i just bought and replaced the main relay switch and the clicking went away but the CEL and drive light still come on and then go off after a second. the injectors are getting gas to them but not going from the fuel rail through the injectors.

How do you know that? Did you pull the code for the CEL?

i took the fuel rail off and turned the key to on and the fuel pump kicked in and the first injector(furthest from where the fuel comes into the rail) and it shot out cause of the pressure. i talked to the service tech at a honda dealer and he said with the clicking, the CEl and drive on it would be a good start to replace the main relay even if it really isn't bad. he said it was most likely bad but they couldn't check it for some stupid reason.

it wasn't the starter solenoid, it was inside the car by the right side of the glove box about the computer. i took all the panels off and took the bolt out that was holding it in and turned the key and while i did that i held onto the main relay and it was clicking. i could feel it ckicking too.
