92 Accord Torque Converter Failing?
I have a 92 Accord I got as a gift for graduating and am now in college. It came with an auto tranny.
Since I got the car, I noticed that the car wont shift into gears. It simply stayed in first gear all day. ALSO, the car has an extremely slow take-off while in "D." It's slow like a worn down clutch in a MT car trying to peel off.
My mechanic thought it was those solenoids but after my 6th pair from the junkyard, I decided to get new ones and it failed utterly. Could it be the torque converter that is the issue or do I need a new transmission?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm wasting too much money trying to get this SOB fixed.

check the fluid. if its low that will cause it not to shift. your transmission is hydromechanical it needs fluid to function. if the fluid is dark, drain nd refill, its not worth have the tranny pressurized to fully drain the system.
also, you can try a automatic trans shift additive, they're cheap and i do think they work.

It is possible the TCM ( trans computer ) is not commanding a shift from 1st while in D4.
Also, it needs to be understood that most of what happens happens inside the transmission. There are a bunch of check valves, fluid ports, pressure activated valves and a bunch of other mechanisms that must work completely and flawlessly for the transmission to function properly. It's like an orchestra with one out-of-tune violin. It ruins the music.
Your transmission needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

I do think I'll need a whole new tranny. It's acting like a little bitch--just like a whiny kid who needs to be dragged on the floor by his arm while showing no signs of resistance.
Will try the additive before actually committing to a new tranny. I just hope I can find a usable one on CL.
That's the first thing I did to try and solve the issue. I haven't tried any trans shift additives yet.
