K series and B series clutch compatability...
Did a little searching around and did not find much on this topic, but would like to know more. Had someone tell me not long ago that they think they have a B series clutch disc in their K series race car. He told me he basically pieced the clutch together with stuff lying around his shop and it has been holding fine with no problems.
I am in somewhat of a bind. I plan on taking my car apart this weekend to find out what is up with the clutch. I suspect that there is a problem with the springs and or disc, just from a previous clutch in another car giving me similar problems.
I have a B series CC Stage 5 sprung hub clutch lying here and what appears to be a CM Stage 3 clutch for a K series. The K series clutch disc looks like it does not have much life left and the B series 4 puck disc seems to have a little more life. I measured the discs and the B series is a little bigger on the outer diameter and the disc material is a little larger, but it appears that it would possibly work with the K series pressure plate. Of course I have never mix-matched clutches before and thats why I am inquiring about this.
Anyone running some crazy pieced together clutch setup in their K setup that they would like to share some more info on?

The clutch discs themselves should be VERY similar, and indeed share identical splines. The pressure plates are certainly different. So I would imagine the B-series clutch disc would work in the K-series, but don't take that as gospel. Something you'll just have to experiment with. Make sure the pads fall completely on the surface of the pressure plate, that the center sections don't contact where they shouldn't, etc.
Are the splines in the hub the same? I just pulled apart my '93 Si a few weeks ago, previous owner used the original Daikin (Exedy) pressure plate and OEM flywheel with a Valeo clutch disc, the Valeo disc is little larger than an Exedy/Daikin disc, it worked fine. As long as the outer diameter of the disc doesn't stick out past the pressure plate surface, or the inner diameter doesn't stick out past then it has a good chance of working.
The B series disc I have, the clutch pucks would actually overlap the K series PP surface a little. I was thinking about that last night and figured it would cause terrible uneven wear on the already used B series disc, if I were to attempt that.
I am no clutch expert, but what would be a decent amount of material on a used disc between the rivets tops and the actual clutch material/surface. This K series disc does not appear to have a ton of life left, but I assume it will last me a little while until I can buy myself another clutch kit. Anyone have any decent measurement ideas?
