98 accord quit running
My daughters 98 Accord quit on her, she was driving and the gauges, tach and speedo went crazy and quit but car was still going, a short time later the engine died and was towed to my shop, I have no power to the Ign. or fuel pump but engine will turn over, I have changed the main relay but that didnt solve the problem. any help would be great.
Thanks David Mize

OK the check engine light never comes on when key is turned on, I connected my scanner to the port and it would not pick up, it said communication error. It worked fine before I just put a O2 sensor on it a few days ago. do you think its the ECM?
check the acg fuse in the driver's side fuse box I think its #7 if I rememer correctly. ALso check the installation of that o2 sensor. Especially if it was the secondary o2. If the sensor wires aciidentally touched one another(cheap 02 sensor that needs to be wired in ) or the power to the o2 sensor laid down on the exhaust and grounded out the ECM fuse would blow causing your symptoms.
Phootbag When you say the ECM fuse are you talking about the main relay? If not where is it located? I will also check all fuses in fuse box KWayRacing.
Thanks for the help

Checked fuses and all are fine, I run a jumper from ground to chassis and to ECM just to make sure it wasnt a ground issue and still no "check engine light" ABS light blinks some random code but nothing will come up on the OBDII, Just "communication error" How do I check the ECM and if I replace it does it have to be reprogramed?
No reprogramming. To check the ECU you need to perform an input test. Basically, test power and ground. Can't provide schematics, but there are probably multiple power and ground circuits for the ECU. Be sure to physically check ground points. Because, though you may have continuity or even voltage, the circuit may not be able to handle current.
I hate suspecting ECU failures. They are an expensive misdiagnosis.

You should start your own thread instead of jumping into someone elses.
Ok I have found the problem, The ECM is fried, I pulled it out and could smell it, opened it up and you can see the board burnt up. Where is the best place to get a rebuilt or used one? Thanks for all the help, im sure it saved me a ton in labor cost.
Junkyard my friend or browse craigslist for an accord that is being parted out.
But check the junkyards first.
It's an immobilizer system. Unfortunately, you need to take the car to the dealer so they can program the keys to match the new ECM. This procedure requires the factory scan tool and must be done by the dealer as they have the necessary access codes etc.
When you insert the key into the ignition the transponder in the key is activated by the immobilizer control unit/reciever. The "code" in the key is read, sent to the ECM for comparision with the codes stored in the ECM. If the codes match, the ECM operates the car.
You need to have the key inserted into the immobilizer reciever with the ECM hardwired for communication. Basically, you need to take the entire car with new ECM, keys etc to the dealer.
Look at it this way, this is how hard it is to steal a car with an immobilizer system. The theif has to take it away on a tow truck.
