It had problems. Another well known manufacturer has had one in testing for awhile now, keep an eye out for it to him the market soon..

im sure its much better then oem....

now if your talking about actual spark energy....i doubt these come anywhere near to my msd sci-l with HVC-2 coil

a cop setup has a lot of advantages though over the oem system not just increased spark energy

What is the advantage?

I know that COP is one of the steps needed to go distributorless...

Yeah that's what I mean. What's the advantage if you're not going distributorless?

with this kit i doubt there is an advantage it looks as it is just more of a "i have coil on plug" setup

i do see why you would spend $600 on this setup when you could do a full used aem set up for around $1000

it still needs something to trigger off of so it uses the sensors in the distributor....but it bypasses the ignitor and uses direct signal from the ecu to know when to fire.

as you can see the distributor is gutted except for the trigger sensors which were never a problem in the first place

You can get AEM Setup (EPM, Coils and Twinfire) for under $850 new if you shop around, and a good bit cheaper if you have some friends.

My friend just came off the rollers with the above setup and it worked flawlessly, it is a waste spark setup but I am sure its more than enough for 99% of the people out there, I have to wonder how much spark energy the setup in this thread really has.

but will the aem setup work with a stock ecu?

spark energy is determined by the coil...this kit uses what i assume are cbr600 cop which is basicly the same as what aem sells with their badge on it.

spark energy is determined by the coil, how does the coil typically get its power? I have never seen an AEM Coil without an ignition box powering it, what is powering all 4 of these coils on this stock ecu setup?

the coils are pull to ground and direct connect to a 12volt volt source (the battery)

I wouldnt really worry about the coils so much you need to concentrate on what is supplying the coils with power. The cbr coils are what I am using in my setup and they use the c2di from aem to get their spark.

Thats where I was going at with the convo but someone likes to play games, I dont see how this stock setup is even close to as hot of a spark as a set of coils being powered by a Ign Box.... am I correct in assuming this is just a low power waste spark setup? How could this possibly supply any more power to the plug when there is nothing amplifying the power to the plug lol?

I know what you meant I just thought I would chime in.I agree and people with 800 hp cars wont mind spending the coin to get a system which properly amplifies the spark.I personally dont see the point in making the switch for cars making less than 600 but thats just my .02

after talking with chad....the only person i personally know to test this system....this system works but has issues with 2step and overheating....the person who created the system is coming out with a dsd4 version which has all the issues fixed.

this system the dsd2 currently available on the market drives the coils to 40kv which is the max they are rated at so your cdi boxes arent getting anymore spark energy then this without burning out the coils.

You can speak kv and what not all day, put it on a car making 800+hp 10krpm without a stupid small gap and then go from there. I know stock K coils on B-Series motor run through AEM can support 700+.
