my heater core is pissing worse than a pregnent women so I gotta replace it. All inside the car and has ruined my carpet. Never done one so I am trying to avoid any extra steps. Looked in the FQA and didnt find anything. Please post a link if you know or have one. Thanks in advance

They're a royal pain in the ***. You'll need to pull the dash, The A/C evaporator core (if you have A/C) and the blower motor IIRC. Don't forget the 12mm nut inside the engine bay. Also they heater hoses are notoriously difficult to remove, they basically bake onto the inlets on the heatercore.

You probably would like specific information for your car, yet you make no mention of it.

thats what got me in this mess in the first place. I took off 1 of the hoses connected to it and bent the end of the heater core and now the hose wont seal and its leaking all in my car

Straighten the inlet on the heater core out as best you can with a pair of needle nose pliers and then start carefully tapping progressively larger deep sockets into the hole to make the inlet round again.

I was thinking of that as well. I will give it a shot before I replace it.

Can it leak into the car though if just the hose isnt sealing? I know its either the hose or it has a crack in the core itself because I hear a gurggling sound when I make hard turns. I figured if it were just the hose, it would leak on the ground not inside the car.

That's exactly what I thought, I wouldn't even have mentioned straightening the ends but you made it sound like that was causing an internal leak, chances are you cracked the pipe inside the heater core removing the hose.

I removed the hose yesterday and used some deep sockets to straighten the fitting out and it worked!!! The leak is gone, I ran the car for 20 mins on an incline in the driveway, and no sign of leakage. Before, I could see it damn near streaming out into the car from the firewall. the fitting was bent to hell and back so I guess thats why it was leaking so bad and going through the firewall. Now for the fun part, pulling the carpet out and cleaning up all the radiator fluid thats under it. Thanks for the help guys

When I first got my eg hatch, I had a similar problem. There was about an inch of standing coolant in the passenger floorboard and about a half inch in the backseat floor board. I don't know what I was thinking back then but for some reason I decided it would be better to just bypass my heater core for the time being instead of just replacing it and fixing the problem. The previous owner said he replaced it just before winter but I'm guessing it was installed wrong or something. Anyway, I gutted my entire interior except for the dash, pressure washed my carpet and got the water hose and a scrub brush and cleaned the floor board, then used the shop-vac to get what water I couldn't scoop out. I feel like I set myself up for disaster because I didn't replace it in the first place but I guess you learn from your mistakes...

Good luck with cleaning it all.

Thats what I did, just sprayed the shell with purple power and cleaned it up as good as I could with a brush, then I pressure washed my carpet. Its still drying. Did you have any smell after you cleaned everything up inside of the car?

No, I was getting rid of my carpet anyway, (replacing my crappy tan with black) but I still kept the tan carpet in my garage and it doesn't smell at all. If I were you, I would just play it safe and spray some Febreze or some other kind of deodorizer on it just to make sure, and your car will smell nice too.

I've never heard of that but it would make sense if it did. If I were you I would just wash it again if you're that worried about it, never hurts to be too safe. When I washed mine I just kept spraying it and then some until no more green and no more bubbles were rinsing out. I left it outside for a few days to dry and folded it up and its been sitting in my garage since May of last year.
