RUST under jack point!!!
hey bad news i changed my wheel on the rear pass side and i found that the jack point is bent and rusted real bad its a foot or 2 is rusted could this be fixed how much would it cost?? i checked the rest of the car and its fine the jack point is basicaly a piece of flaked rusted metal
and dont let it go! fix it ASAP and you probably will need a professional place to do it. I'm guessing $400 TOPS. Most likely 250-300
dude if the car ahs ever been in the north its entirely possible for the car to break out with rust anywhere. as for me the chassis i have is rust free. but i have read of quite a few people having probs in their wheel wells
here's the deal here; if your vehicle lives or has lived in a rainy climate with road salt winters,
check over the entire sills (both sides). If you find anything with a brownish stain, chances are that
this is rust ready to go through. Try pushing any suspect areas gently with your thumb; if its soft,
you've got rust! As far as fixing it, its a big deal (read expensive). I would suggest de-scaling any
areas that are rusty with a wire wheel on a drill (or similar tool) then using a rust converter (like
the product made by Marhyde) to cover the bare areas. Then use some gravel guard and a topcoat.
You could do some local repair on the jacking point, but this is a tricky one because it is structural.
I would highly suggest that you get some Waxoyl or other similar product and go through the vehicle.
Hit the insides of the sills, inside the rear quarters, floor box members, etc; this will prevent further rust
and stop the existing stuff. Remember, Honda shetmetal seems to be extremely thin, so when rust
starts, it doesn't take long to go through and spread. I know, I live in BC, and it's a freakin rainforest here!
good luck

my jacking point on rear drivers side is completly gone I jacked it up and it came right through. I've been using the hook under the back to jack it up. Its sucks even more cause winter is almost here.

my quarter panels have rust suprisingley the rest of the car doesn't have much. Plus once it comes into nor cal weather it doesn't see much. MY chassis is clean of rust. the previous owner lived next to beach i guess.
Being a body tech, I figure 6-8 hours to fix at 36.00 an hour, then refinish time 2 hours @ 50.00 an hour, then R&I (remove & install) pannels .5 hours@ 36.00 an hour.. Do the math. That's just for the front.

yeah i know thats what i meant i guess i didn't explain it well. See everyone asks me how i have rust in cali. Thats my explanation. The previous owner went to UCSD, so thats my only idea. rust isn't too bad on my car however.
its just the pass side rear jack point that is all the way rusted. im thinking no more then 500 to fix cause my car has to go in the shop for a new paint job and ww kit so i wanted to do all this at the same time
Oh man mine is very bad on both sides. been wondering what to do with it for a while thinkin of cutting a bunch out and rustproofing then putting some wings west sisde skirts on it. what do think.
lol, mine were gone when i first got the floor. i fixed it up pretty good though, i'd have to say they're stronger then they were stock now.
next time u come up to a stop sign, look at the pole, it'll be like a hollowed out square pipe with holes drilled in it. i cut it in half, tapered it like it was stock, and used some carriage bolts in about 5 places to hold it up, unercoat it and its good as new.
and u though home depot car accessories were ghetto, try stop signs

sounds like I need to import some rust free bodies for people.
we have rust here, but only on cars that have been sitting for a long time. its rare to find structural rust on a honda here, unless its from somewhere else.

Good call. Keep an old thread that already has info on it going, that's the way to go.
