my car ran fine then some wires that were really weak on my jumper harness broke finally so i ordered a new one well once i put it on i turned on the car and it idles really rough and smells like gas do u guys know what it can be i drIve a 88 ef dx mpfi wired with rywire n obd1 d15 could it be my battery or alternator? fyi car barley turned on in like a week any help thanks i need this fixed

 

check the condition of your fuel injector seals and your fpr...i had a similar problem and swapped my fpr and i've been getting over 300 miles on a full tank and the gas smell went away...!!!

it did to me but i also had a bad tps sensor (code 7) and it would run like ****...!!!

 

i had that code b4 then i change my throttle body n it went away ill see if i can get another fpr

 

i also meant the exhaust fumes smell like gas really strong

 

It is possible the harness you bought as a replacement have crossed wires if all you did was switch to the new one and the car ran fine before. It could be injector wire signals were crossed.

I would try another harness. Most jumper harness are not color coded so unless you know what you are doing, it would be a headache to trace the wires to the pinouts.

How bad is the broken wire in the old harness btw. It might be an easy fix. Post a pic
