Just curious! My speedometer is run by a cable and I can't find any wires or sensor to the system. What am I suppose to be looking for to fix my problem? Also noticed that when the CEL comes on. The IAC causes the engine to surge it's revving. Not sure if they are connected but it seems to happen at the same time.

 

make sure that the cable is connected behind the cluster and plugged into the vss in the tranny...if they appear to be connected then you might have a faulty speedometer cable...!!!

 

I will check again but the speedometer is working just fine. It isn't hesitating, skipping, or anything like that. I got the car about 2 months ago and the cable was barely in the transmission at all with no code flashing. Now it is plugged in and working but throwing up a code.

 

Are you sure it's code 17 (VSS) and not codes 1 and 7 (PrimaryO2 sensor and TPS)? Something with the O2 sensor or TPS could make it surge.

 

Yes I am sure. It has 17 flashes then pauses and flashes 17 more times

 

Probably a bad cable.

 

I have the same problem.i have H22 swap in my 88 ef and the check engine light comes on every here and then i read the code and 17 pops up i dident mess with my vtec but now it does sometimes it wont.even go in
