Default ecu question

alright so i have set the mecanical timing and ignition timing, checked all the valves for clearance set the gap on my plugs and its all right, im still throwing code p0336 which is the crank sensor. ive changed it twice.i still cant go ver 3500 rpm randomly, so if the ecu was bad would it not let it go over 3500rpm and when i cleared the code in the ecu it automatically shut the car off, it didnt die it just shutoff.other than that i have some piging while accelerating or if its in neutral if i hit the gas and let off it will ping some, my ecu is a p2p a32. its a 97 civic ex all stock d16y8.5spd thanks for any help

The CEL code is for the CKF sensor near the crank pulley gear behind the lower timing belt cover. Is that what you replaced three times?

im glad your on here, yeah thats the sensor ive replaced twice, now what ive noticed is as long as there isnt and cels the car will run over 3500 rpm but as soon as the cel comes on it wont let it go over 3500. i guess thats a safety thing, but now ii got p0335 not p0336

I made a mistake. Both codes are for the CKP sensor inside the distributor. Measure its resistance.

so after further investigation i retested all the pins and they all read in between 350 - 700 excepte ckp it read 1700 so i replaced the distributor and wah lah everything was fixed, except the pinging under acceleration, and i really think its just low grade fuel ill know tomorrow for sure i went and filled it up with 93 octane so we will see. but thanks ronj@ht for pointing me in the right direction.

Glad to hear you sorted it out.

Did you set the ignition timing to spec after replacing the distributor? There's a diagram in the FAQs sticky that shows you how to do it.
