Default Question for anybody with a 50' gooseneck trailer.

Can you get 3 civics in it? I don't have access to a trailer, and have to order one without testing it.

Floor on a 50' trailer is 42'.
It's so close to fitting 3 cars it's within inches. Depending on chute mount, I'm at 13'6" x 3 cars. That's 40.5 feet. which leaves 18", or 4.5" between each car, and then the rear door and then the nose of the trailer. If anything is measured wrong, like the rear door comes in a few inches and the front wall takes realestate from the floor, I'm down to 2" between everything. Like essentially touching.

Anybody with experience hauling three indoors? Yes, it would be easier with a 52' trailer... Place I've worked with only goes to 50'.

I got to Pull Speedfactorys trailer last year, and it towed well. Little tongue heavy, but I'm sure that's just how it was loaded. I think it was a 36' floor Cargo Mate. So I'm working with those Cargo Mate dudes.

For those that dig on trailer talk,
This one is a 50' Cargo Mate Qualifier
Empty trailer weight with triple 7000# axles is 8600 on 16" radials.
Tongue weight, empty about 900

I think we should be at 24,000# loaded, I just don't want to cross that 26,000# number.

Any insight is appreciated.

It's a 50' trailer with a 42' belly with 18" to spare... How would you tie the cars down? You have no room for the straps? Also, if you have a single axle truck. I wouldn't dream of pulling a trailer of that size. You need a dually.

My rule of thumb is 16ft per civic to strap them down safely. I don't see you getting 3 cars in a 50' trailer.

Take front bumper and chute mount of car. And they will fit. The trick to strapping the cars down is really easy. strap 1st car down, have front straps for 2nd car to the length or postition you want the car. Then load car and roll it back till front straps grab, then strap the back and so forth...

Now getting that cars out is a bi**h and you will need a midget.

We have a 48ft and haul two cars in it all of the time. It's pretty packed with two, I wouldn't even consider three.

...lol... Just smash 'em in there and close the door, like an overnight suitcase that's packed for a week vacation.

We don't bring that kind of stuff. Just need indoor storage and transport for the cars. no spare engines, limited tools, few spare sets of tires, no pit vehicles. We do SCCA racing out of the trailer as well.

900# hitch weight (and I'm pretty handy at loading a trailer to keep hitch weight in spec.) No troubles, on my f350 the tires are rated to I think 7200# gvw as a pair. I've run the old triple car hauler across a few scales an everything looked within spec. That said, I think I'm gonna get a dually this year anyway. WHICH SUCKS... I was just starting get good mileage with the other truck. Stuff starting to get broken in. I just don't want to find myself in a situation where an overzealous "NEW GUY" with the D.O.T. is gonna cause me some serious trouble that most of us don't need when we are hundreds or thousands of miles from home.

Good question on the tie-downs. Gonna use E-track. 2 rows. and use these (they make better versions, pic is an example). No straps would stick out further than the car they were on, no overlap. Front car, the lightest, could kiss the wall if need be. Also, the trailer guy said he's got some dirt dudes that get 3 cars in a trailer like this. They made a ramp inside with a winch attached and the front car's nose ends up slightly on the upper deck. Gains 2-3 feet. I don't know that i'm that motivated, to build an interior structure. Although, ALTHOUGH, if you were clever you could build a lowrider golfcart and put under the ramp.... HMMMmmmmm.

E-track:

I'd get a 53' to be safe. My 40' was tight with an EG and a DC. But still had some room to store other stuff. The extra 10 feet of floor likely would only leave ya that 18" leftover when it's strapped perfectly. Another 3' on top of that would be REALLY nice to have.

Shameless plug, someone buy my trailer

most people dont think to use drive on ramps but we used them and traveled everywhere with them in 2002. Back the first car in. put all 4 wheels on ramps in the center car. then pull 3rd car under rear of center car. That setup will easily get 3 on a 42' floor. we crammed 2 crx's and a golf cart on a 27.5' floor this way. also put Mohlers neon and Dowd's jetta in the same trailer, rode to cali and back without a problem.

Got a pic of that setup with the ramps?

Just got off the phone from the factory. The dealer said 50' was the limit, factory said no problem, we go to 53', it's just not common, most people don't do it. So I could do a 52. Also, apparently 53' is the maximum legal length. was news to me. I know a guy with a 53... it's a monster.

My old triple car was 30' from the center of the ball to the middle set of tires, and 10' from the back axle to the back of the trailer.

The 52 would be 36' to the center of the rear axle from the ball. and I think he said 16' from there to the back of the trailer.
