Default b18c identification help

I recently bought a 92 civic si with a Honda b18c motor in it. I want to do some work on it but I don’t know exactly what it is or what it’s out of.

This is what i know

It has a 2.4" intake
b18c stamp on the engine
s80 trans with no lsd
P72-1 stamp on the head

Here are some pics. Tell me everything you know.

Engine block stamp

Head stamp

Timing belt

It's a jdm version of the gsr. All the parts are the same as the udsm model. It has a higher comp piston and makes an extra 8hp

Looks to be made in 1993. This would have been in a 94 model, a DC model Integra in Japan known as an SiR-G if i remember correctly

Its a Spec R motor for sure. You lucky duck.
Here's what it is compared to the regualr B18C1 USDM Motor:
1. Camshaft - Wide-angled, high-lift, high-duration, high-durability camshaft
2. Exhaust Valve Spring - High-lift, dual-layered spring
3. Spark plug - High-heat-type #7 platinum plug
4. Engine Stiffener - Aluminum die-cast, high-durability, one-piece type
5. Crankshaft - Full-counterweight, 8-weight, high-output, custom crankshaft
6. Connecting Rod - Custom TypeR rod, high-durability, lightened
7. Pistons - High-compression, low-friction, custom pistons
8. Inlet Valves - Lightened inlet valves
9. Intake Manifold - Custom tuning, single-port type.
10. Throttle Body - 62 mm (2.4 in) wide-mouth throttle body.
11. Inlet Valve Springs - High-lift, flat-surfaced, dual-layered spring
12. Port Buffing done by hand. For 98 Spec port buffing is done by machine
13. Fastening of Connecting Rod done with micrometer.
14. 98 Spec engine has stainless steel 4-1 exhaust manifold to increase torque

Talk about jumping the gun!! Not correct, i have already stated what the engine is, throwing on a red valve cover doesn't make it a type R, the head alone is a dead give away

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/4...M2Lhu3Ysge3nwU

this is my motor and im pretty sure its ITR. pr3 stamped on the block.
i read somewhere that the GSR intake mani doesnt fit the ITR motor and your manifold looks like the GSR one so im guessing its a gsr motor. The ITR one is bigger than the GSR one and the only way to fit the same style manifold that you have on ur motor on an itr motor is by getting an aftermarket one like the skunk2. which will be a dead give away since it'll say skunk2 on it lol

hopefully im right and this helps

it could be itr, but even in Japan, people swap heads over.

-Is there a small strip of green paint behind the distributor?

-Is the intake manifold stamped P73?

- does it have a tranny brace mounted to the bottom of the block?

- what year is stamped on that head?

I have an ITR swap, and this is definitely a GSR!

Guys,
Out of curiosity... are there other JDM motors with B18C stamped on the block?

I am asking because I thought that the only B18C was the JDM ITR motor (dropped 5 at the end as opposed to USDM B18C5).
Does the JDM version of the B18C1 also just drop the last character in the block code and become B18C? If that's the case, due to the confusion this will cause, are we supposed to look at all the other parts (head/tranny stamps, intake manifold, TB, valve cover etc) in order to determine whether it's a JDM GSR or a JDM ITR motor?

Thanks for clarifying.

Both the GSR, and the ITR are both stamped B18C. You do have to look at them to tell them apart. The main way to tell is the head stamp. P72=GSR
PR3=ITR

Edit: Also the intake mani is a dead give away for me. They are very different. Another thing I read in your question, Tranny stamp has nothing to do with the engine. All that tells you is what trans you have. Both the ITR and the GSR come with a S80 trans. Different gear ratio's and LSD is the difference between the two. That doesn't mean they are not interchangable.

On another note, that knock sensor has to be a pain to get to on the GSR!!

FYI
I looked on the bottom and it has a tranny brace and it says p72 on it.
Looked at the block and it says p72 on it
And looked at the manifold and it says p72 also
I couldn’t find a year on the head but there was a little green dot on a metal tab by the distributor

So from what I have gathered so far is that it’s out of a 93 jdm Integra and its b18c GSR with a type r valve cover.

you see all i want to do is buy a timing belt and a water pump for it before I throw it back into my civic, so what kind of car do I say it’s out of when i go to orileys+ its nice to know what it actually is.

thanks for all the input so far guys
