Default Gsxr or Gsr

I'm torn between buying a 600cc bike or a local has a flawless supersonic. Blue Gsr with a type r lip kit and the works! Anyone on here ride? I already have a integra just wanna here some input. (sorry I know this isn't a tech ?)

Putting up big money for a bike that you can really only ride depending on the whether VS a sexy GSR

My bike was more fun then my car. I don't recommend getting one if you've never ridden before. It'll hurt you if you're not careful. Wheelies and rolling burnouts are really fun though. Plust the occasional 150+ mph blast.

GSXR's have a more 'race' style seating position, Ninjas are for the most part the same, CBR's have a more upright seating position and I find they are the most comfortable for me.

Down to personal preference which would you rather have and what can you afford?

You do realize the power to weight ratio of these bikes right? They are pushing 90hp and weigh slightly over 300lbs. (that's 90hp to the ground)

In other words, if you hit a pothole in 2nd gear at 4k rpms and 'accidentally' pop the throttle wide open (It will happen you are new to bikes) the bike is going to buck you off and haull *** down the road.

The best advice I could give you is start with a 2cylinder 500cc bike, it has plenty of go for a beginner to learn with and doesn't have the reaction speed of a 4cylinder.

I am at the point where my current bike isn't enough and even though I have 12k miles under my belt I still don't feel ready for a 600..... This is coming from someone who loves skydiving, diving, tracking, rock climbing. I love adrenaline but 600's are retard scary fast.

I have a friend who started on a 1000rr he's still alive like he said just be aware of your surroundings and don't be stupid. But okay let me put it this way is buying a bike any SIZE exclude prior riding experience....as fun as everyone makes it out to be

i may have to disagree here about a couple of things here but agree on a few...

First of all I have been riding on the street since i was 19 and Im 37 now. My Previous bikes have been a '92 CbR600f2, '96 900rr, '00 Suzuki TL1000R and my current and favorite ride an '04 R1. so i would like to think i know just a lil about street riding. not claimin to be an expert but just sharing a few thoughts and ideas.

Start on whatever you can afford and feel comfortable with. Be smart!!! If you've never ridden PLEASE dont try and impress anyone by buying a 1000cc bike. The only thing you'll impress is the local paramedics.

Dont believe ANY of the horror stories happen all the time (i.e hitting pot holes at 4k rpm) obviously that statement came from a VERY inexperienced rider. Not paying attention to your sorroundinds will get you in big trouble!!!!

And yes bikes are cool but crashing sucks. The power to weight ratio cant be touched!!! just think i dyno'd my r1 and the results were 165hp at the wheel!!!!!

^ I did exaggerated the 4k pothole a bit . But none the less a full open throttle on a 600 is enough to slide you off the rear of the bike if you aren't ready for it.

That last part confuses me.... but I will try to answer.

YES? Owning a bike and enjoying the ride is fun regardless of bike engine displacement. Just because you only have a 250 doesn't make you a *****, or just because you have a 500 doesn't make you stupid. As long as you are alive and having fun there is no reason to let it get to you. I started with a 250, upgraded and working on a 600 when I feel I can use it and not die.

When I was on a 250 it was as much fun as on my big brothers 600 at the time. I enjoy riding a 250 as much as a 500 or 600. Granted riding that 600 brings a 'retard grin' to my face when I crack the throttle, the 250 and 500 are more than capable and being of super sport design corner with the best of them. Feeling the bike pull through a corner with a 250 is as much fun as a 600 IMHO.

What critics of the 250 bikes don't realize is that they will do 0-60 in 5.3seconds with good shifting, fast enough to beat damn near anything on the road in a light to light. I like the motto I heard on a bikers forum a while ago.
Riding a slow bike fast is more fun than riding a fast bike slow
which I agree with 100%. After you crack that throttle you'll want to keep going but the law is the law, at least on the smaller bike you can push it until its screaming, gain invaluable experience and move on when ready.

Here is a real life example of a newb on a 600.... no joke no lie no exaggeration.

One of my HS buddies, we'll call him Tommy.

I go over to Tommy's graduation party with my at the time 250, he says wow that's a nice bike what is it?
I reply, a 250.
Tommy: Wow that's all man, why didn't you get a 600 or something.
I reply: Do you have any clue how fast a 600 is?
Tommy: It can't be that bad.
I reply: ok well I feel much more comfortable with the 250
Tommy: cool maybe I'll pick one up.

Fast forward 7months.

Tommy comes over with his new Katana 600 with Yoshi slip on (sounds great). Meanwhile I've been riding and learning on my 250. We set out for a 2\3hr ride around the area him in the lead after we get on the 4lane. Once we get on the back roads I start to notice his shifts are ragged like OMG he isn't dead yet ragged. He can hardly control the bike in the corners and slows WAYYYYY down.

Fast forward to a more recent time before my upgrade. He calls we head out before he leaves for college across the state.

His shifts are better but still shitty, still can't corner with a damn. We messed around and raced on a 4lane that goes through tons of curves and a few nice straights. The ONLY time he passed me was on the straights..... Mind you his bike has 3\4x's the power of my little 250.

Bottom LINE

Size isn't everything, you won't regret getting a 250 after you get on a 600 and get that 'retard grin' and hit a few corners with it. The 250 is a feather weight and easily controlled and forgives mistakes, the 600 isn't so forgiving. I would highly suggest starting with a 500 at most unless you have dirtbike experience. The 500 will have more leg room and a touch more power but still be very controllable for a new rider.

Use some common sense and don't try and act like a retard on it. You have to respect the bike or it will hurt you. Secondly you ARE going to wreck it. It's just something you will have to come to terms with. Every rider goes down at least once.
I've ridden a gsxr 05/06 I think and didn't like it. It felt wide to me in the tank/seat area.
I have a 06 kawisaki ninja 636 and it's a great bike. Plenty of power and comfy. Also have ridden a friends 07 honda cbr 600rr and it's a comfortable bike too. To answer your question yes bikes are fun to ride. Especially if you have a group ride or just 1-2 friends. I sold mine cause it seemed like I never rode it cause of work and if I did ride I was by myself.

i think the correct statement is that the 600 will kill YOU. i will agree 250cc bikes are light and controllable. But your speaking as if you already know his skill or potential. Not trying to diss but it seems like you have reach the limit in which your comfortable and trying to convince him that thats the limit he should stay at. Just my opinion tho....

Ic well thank you guys for your opinions! And that quote does make sense I'll have to look around for some 250s I just don't wanna buy one then not be able to sell it...

^ grab a 500 if you don't want a 250. Another great reason to buy used and a smaller bike = smaller bikes lose value quicker for whatever reason and are cheaper to fix for the most part. I wouldn't cry over 1000$ bike I just laid down and broke the fairings on but I'd probably kill myself if I dropped 2500 on a great running 600 and did the same thing. Its ridiculous how expensive fairings are, like stupid expensive .imo

I fixed my post right after you quoted me haha. (didn't see the quote just read it and realized how I came off)

No, I'm assuming he has NO experience with street bikes or any other powered 2 wheeled vehicle.
I don't want to be the asshat that says 'go out and get a 600 youll do fine' and he goes and kills himself trying to impress someone.
I've ridden nothing bigger than a 600, almost pulled the trigger on an 1100 that needed work but that's another story.

AGreeD its not IF your gonna go down, its WHEN you go down....plenty of spills but thats ridin for ya!!! Didnt like Gixxers myself and that was my main problem with the TL. Too wide. 636s are quick lil f*ckers too!! Honda are just like the cars, reliable and all around fun (the exact reason i started on them) i prefer a more race oriented ride (means uncomfotable but fast as hell) so Yamaha it is for me. Hope it helps ya!!

Its all good man!!!! i read your post after that and i agree with what your saying. Disagree with that jump to the 1100 tho and are glad your still on the 250!!! Sounds like you have the mind set to advance when you need to and have fun the whole time along the way. thats what riding is all about!!!!

Yeah I love the ride but I'm a tad bit tall for it at 6'0". Still looking for the right 600 to pick up. I jump on my brothers 600 every chance I get, I love the bigger bike and its WAY more comfortable for my height.

Its not the fastest but still brings a grin to my face on the corners, so light it dives right in . Like I said, love adrenaline but I prefer calculated risks, after hitting the 600 at the dealership I realized I would be dead within a month so 250 was the wisest choice for me haha. (granted now I wish I had gotten the 500 its all good)
