worth the trade?
got a friend, gots a 3000gt vr-4 for sale
he is selling it for 5000 but my buddy knows him since long time ago
he said if me or him want it he will hook us up for 4000
so he knows i drive a DA and he said if i want we could trade my DA plus 2k on top,
so he says all it needs is the clutch, i looked around and found exedy clutch kit for 300-400 (forgot exactly how much), now i text drove it, gears are fine went on freeway boosts great, now in 2nd it went till about 5k rpms then didnt accelerate, is this a clutch problem? my buddy has a GSX he said it is since he knows more about AWD, so i guess my question is.
IS IT WORTH IT?

I don't think I would take a 15+ yr old massive turd of an AWD turbo vehicle even if you paid me. I can't even begin to imagine how much time and money that would require on upkeep.
I think you would enjoy your DA with $2K worth of power and suspension mods than you would that VR4 that apparently has some problems you'll have to deal with.

Would you trade Megan Fox for Snooki? thought not. Like Patrick said that is a turd at best. keep your 2k, put half of in the da, and walk all over him while waving your change in his face!!! Keep the DA!!!
just laugh in his face and walk.. id take my stock 90 b18a1 over that setup anyday. i knew a kid that had same car and he was constantly fixing something in trans, clutch, axles, ect.. if it could go wrong it did after he bought it even though it was fairly ok shape when he got it..
you will be much happier finishing the ls/vtec and doings suspesion, brakes and better trans

DSM refers to the Eclipse/Talon/Laser, not the Evo and not the 3000GT or any other Mitsubishi vehicle. But anyway, yeah aside from breaking all the time, I'm sure the parts for a 3000GT VR4 are expensive as hell... like rear CV shafts, good luck finding those.
Oh yeah, they also weigh nearly 4,000 lbs.

I had a 94 VR-4. Let me say, that was one of the funnest cars I've ever driven.
They are very heavy but you can boost the hell out of the engine if you're up for it. They break almost every week, super high maintenance. All wheel steering and all wheel drive make it awesome for a track car. I had the 6 speed tranny which is a must for me in that car. They handle like a dream and are very fast but they are SOOO much work just to keep running well.
I would say, if he's willing to do the trade, get him down to like 1500, and then you could fix the clutch and flip it to some kid for a nice profit. But you might fall in love with the car as I did. lol
Head over to www.3si.org and check out some of the common problems with the car before you buy.
So you can see the car has a lot of pros and cons. It's kinda up to you if you're willing to live with them.

DSM does stand for diamond star motors. But keep your da I have a buddy with a 3000gt with a vr4 and they are garbage. He got walked by another buddys del sol running a d16z6 running 8lbs of boost. Yea they are a rare car and can be fun but they will nickel and dime you as everyone else has said. Not worth it imo especially one that needs work right off the bat.
