Well, this is a simple answer. Your car doesn't have vtech or v-tech.

Also, you were passing someone in 3rd gear at 7500 rpm? That sounds completely necessary.

Is the car throwing any codes?

It started to stutter at 7.5k rpms and now i have no vtech. i have a new filter coming in tomorrow. if that doesnt get it going then i was going to make sure that i was getting oil pressure to the cylenoid. i'll keep you guys posted on the progess.

yea def check that oil pressure should be 57 psi with no load at 5000 rpm, also try reset the ecm and doing a continuity check on the oil pressure switch

first off, if you have nothing helpful to post i feel its best you keep it to yourself. were not in the third grade. get a life.

any-who, im helping my friend diag the car. he just ordered the filter which was recommended by a long time Honda friend. if the filter doesn't help can someone help me with the proper way to check for oil pressure at 5k???

thanks for help
David-

edit: the pcm has already been reset with no luck. i thought he might even have put the wrong gas in so we filled up with some fresh 93 and added some octane booster to eliminate that possible issue...

Have you checked your oil recently? This can cause the car to not engage vtec. Also, is your car warmed up at the time. the car will cut fuel off if the car is not warmed up to prevent any damage.
I would definitely double check your oil levels. This seems to be a reoccurring issue.

so basicly just put a oil pressure gauge in place of where the connector goes into the solenoid

I just had changed my oil 800 miles ago. it happened when i had driven about 100. The oil was pretty dirty. My filter came in today. Have to go and get it and put it on.

ok if the filter doesnt work try giving the solenoid a couple light taps to see if it was jamed if that doesnt work ill put the pages up so you can check the solenoid for proper fuction lets hope its something simple like that ! to me it sounds like there is a problem within the solenoid

go to harbor freight and buy an oil pressure gauge. They are like $20 - dirt cheap and work great (I own a Ducati, ask how I know). Check the pressure at idle and at 5,000 as specified above.

You can do all that without removing the vtec solenoid (vtach, vteck, vtech, vtek, virginia tech, or whatever ya'll call it).

it's likely something VERY simple. And use some vise grips to get the stripped bolt out of the way if you need to.

PS - in kepeing cunsistanzy with this thred i wantud too mispel sume wurdz.

thanks you guys for the helpful posts! you guys are great for not posting ignorant posts. my friend is a "newbe" to working on his cars and i appreciate your patients.

me on the other hand am not familiar with honda's and im a DSM'er at heart (flame if you must lol) but am not a newbe when it comes to wrenching. he is my best friend and ill do whatever it takes to get his project s2k running right!

alright back on topic. the steps that have been taken thus far.

1.oil has been changed with mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30 and is filled right to the full mark. i heard this is a common issue so this is where we stared.

2.solenoid filter has been changed with no luck yet.

next we will be buying a oil pressure gauge and testing the vtec solenoid itself.

we will post our findings when we get some free time. im working 11 to 12 hours a day so if your patient i will get back when i can.

thanks again
David-

alright i quickly went outside and the solenoid seems to have good spring tension. i removed the oil sensor and looked inside to see if it was gummed up and it wasnt. i tapped the vtec solenoid itself a few times and hoped that would jar something back to normal with no luck also.

we will be getting a oil pressure gauge and checking for pressure...
