transmission question
So i was wondering if you can make a 5 speed manual, a 6 speed? or if you can get the 5th gear bigger so it has a better top end and cruise at lower RPMs.
99 acura cl 2.3 manual trans.
also a bearing or differental? is going out so would it be cheaper to rebuild it cuz it doent need gears and stuff, or just drop a used one in their?
anyhelp or input would be great thanks

If you can find a shop that would make a new set of gears I don't see why you couldn't. Unless there wasn't enough room.
As far as rebuilding, you'd need to know if the problem is gears or bearings making the noise. Bearings are cheap with only the labor to remove, disassemble, replace and reinstall being the major portion of the bill. Gears are a bit more expensive, especially the large differential gear(s).
Rebuild vs. Used/Reman is debatable. It depends on the price of the rebuild, the price of a used trans and the price of a reman trans. You need to call around.

ya, that wont really help you very much. im assuming you are doing this for better mpg?
if you change the gear ratio, you will just be making the engine work harder and you will just lose acceleration at highway speed without getting any better mpg. the guys at honda/ acura have probably figured this out pretty well, just trust them. also a custom transmission would probably be expensive as hell.
about the bearing or dif. i have no idea, sorry
ps i think you mean "drop one in THERE" correct grammar/spelling is pretty loose, use her whenever you want

IM pretty sure it a bearing, it has no problems shifting, and as long as i give it gas its fine, only when its on deacceleration is when it makes a noise. at first thought it was the axles but its not. new problem is when i turn it clinks, sorta like a axle would but a little more harsher. Ive looked a little, 1200 rebuild. much cheaper if i pull the trany my self, but i dont really have time for that. ive found a used trany for 350 but again id have to do all the work. so i dunno.
thanks so much for the feed back guys
