I would just ask for my money back from who ever you bought it from. That thing is beat up!

^^ Ditto...Best option is to contact Quaife and see what they say. If they can't send replacements...get your money back from seller unless you agreed to buy it as is.

Is that a 6U?
If so, I have parts here. Looks like someone had it a little tight based on the wear on the sun gears. We can explore warranty coverage depending on when & where it was purchased.

its the b16/LS version

one side is marked F 1U1.03
ring gear half is marked QJ2, Quaife and 6/95
what do these numbers mean? i searched for hours and found nothing.

I just purchased it a couple weeks ago off a member here who said he owned it for about 5 years. As for having it tight i think you are right as one of the concave washers is practically flat now, and also the end faces of all the gears have a lot of wear on them. also, I work in a machine shop so i can measure parts/bores if that will help at all.

It's a QDF1U then.

The spring stack should have 6 spring washers, if one is flat, I'd highly recommend replacing them. The spring stack effects preload, too little isn't good for the driver, too much isn't good for the diff.

Sometimes Quiafe UK will honor their old distributors warranty, it will take a little time and it's a case-by-case basis, but I'll see what I can do if you're interested in going that route.

well despite the fact im a broke *** student im set on using this diff so ideally i would like to replace the 2 pieces that the previous owner ruined regardless of whether or not i have to pay. i dont really have another option, i couldnt live with myself if i turned around and sold the diff to someone else but im already 600$ in...

anyways please let me know if its possible to order those 2 parts as well as a new set of spring washers. if not can you please provide info (via pm if you want it hush hush) on material used and heat treatment because my last resort will be making my own replacements (which i really dont have the time to do).

did you mention quaife uk because this is a european model or are the NA distributors fairly new?

The axle gear is worn in two places (axle splines and top half where the washer case rides).

NA distributor changed a few years ago from Autotech to Motovicity (where Scott works). Both have their own warranties for Quaife.

Thanks its so hard to tell when the pieces are in my hand...
and they're not just worn but ground by some sort of grinder too (since we're playing the obvious game)

my suspicion is that the axle broke off inside (or something of the like), the original owner thought he would "fix" the damage, realized he just ruined the diff and put it up for sale. on second thought maybe he's just this stupid and thought it would work.

anyways im not really concerned with the warranty at this point im concerned about being able to use this diff and I dont really care if I have to pay out of pocket. lesson learned, i wont be buying used items like this off honda-tech again.

since these pieces are useless anyways I might try welding in the material he removed and then re-machining and re-treating. i figure that might be ok because its only going to be used with a naturally aspriated setup with long gears but obviously wear is the main concern so im not sure if i want to do something that I would have to check occasionally.
