88 crx stock d16 just boosted
Ok I am new to honda tech and turbos for starter but I do no a good bit about motors and honda but I do have some questions. Ok I have a 1988 crx hf I got a good deal from a friend and got it. It was a 1.5 hf motor with 275 k on it and he owns a automotive shop and they put a 1.6 88 crx si motor in it. Ok so I got it and the car has 60 tho miles on it and another friend had a 93 ex civic and had a garrett t3 t4 kit on it he had blown the motor so we put it in the crx. So we put it on and it runs now but it seams to idle ok around the 1000 rpm mark but kinda seams to surge a little and just be off some. Also I just took it for a small test drive just about 40 yards or so and it had more power but deff not what it should it seamed sluggesh and again not near like it should now I'm asking this car has stock ecu ,all sensors intake mani, injectors I mean everything but turbo now its only runnind about 7 to 8 lbs well that's what it was running on the other honda. So why do y'all thinks its running like that I've been told its the injectors the ecu and a lot of other stuff but I've also been told on 8 lbs I can run just fine with stock everything I've been told it can vac hoses o and also my blow off val never went off eather I don't no y. But if u can help it would be great if u need pic to I can post the if it is a vac line plz input a line diagram plz thanks
Unfortunately whoever told you that you can run 8 psi on stock everything, meaning injectors and ECU, was sorely mistaken. The motor will handle the boost fine ,unless you run it untuned, which seems to be the case.
The reason the car is running sluggish is because:
A. Stock injectors are probably not giving enough fuel to compensate for the increased air flow from the turbo. Easy fix for this is get a set of 450cc injectors from a 90-94 Eagle Talon (Eclipse, and Plymouth Laser included) turbo, they will be suffice and can usually be picked up for ~$50 last time I had checked. I would also recommend buying a Walbro 255 Fuel pump. I'v seen some people run on stock fuel pumps, but for 100 bucks why risk it? Cheap insurance in my opinion.
B. The car is not tuned at all. If you want the car to last and not blow up like your friends car did, I would recommend not driving the car with the turbo kit on it as you will more than likely run into detonation which may cause the motor to fail. Detonation is caused by a lack of fuel for the amount of air coming in.
Your blow off valve needs to be hooked up to a vacuum source from the intake manifold. You may have to use a vacuum "T" fitting to achieve this.
