Default '93 civic 1.5 - air leak + loss of power

Hi all,

I need a hand. I have a random intermittent pshhhhhing sound and loss of power when under load accelerating from 20mph. I'm not sure if the noise is induction or exhaust but It's definitely air being forced in or out of somewhere which affects the power significantly.

I know my way around cars (mostly vw's until now) and have checked hoses, clamps, push in sensors, valves etc and haven't found anything which has solved the problem.

Has anyone had something similar or can you recommend something to check or re-check...

Cheers

Mark

If you've checked all that stuff all you need is to check the exhaust. Exhaust leaks can cause that exact loss of power

I would say exhaust leak but it's odd that it's intermittent. Maybe check the intake/exhaust manifold gaskets as a start. I also had a injector gasket go out and it made a LOUD sucking noise but that was always constant.

Thanks for your quick replies guys.

I got lazy and didn't get under the car to check the exhaust but thinking about it, that first joint which is sprung loaded, if there was inconsistent movement on that gasket and if the gasket has has a weak point...hmmm might replace that tomorrow.

The problem does seem to occur when you put your foot on the gas and downshift...

Cheers guys

I'll report back if this works but if anyone has more ideas then I'll welcome them...
