i just bought a crappy 1990 ef sedan 1.5 5 speed with over 250000 miles, no carpet, no heat, or a/c bad cv joint and a smashed up rear quarter panel.
a friend wants to trade me his 1995 ford escort 4 door 5 speed with the gt front end, ok paint and body, full interior, 150,000 miles and a b18a1 and he said he will install it into my crx when i buy the trans, mounts etc.

do yal think i should do the trade?

 

It seems like a good deal, but i'd prefer to keep the ef sedan

Not a fan of a Ford yet those escorts will run forever. Since it sounds like the ef is dying like mine. I would love to have a reliable dd.

 

He is gonna give you a B series and swap it in for you plus another car for your beat up ef? I would do it and sale the Escort as you would get more for it than the sedan. Then you can buy a better sedan.

 

as far as the trade goes....yes. but get rid of that escort as soon as you have the keys and title, they are total garbage and i would not recommend anyone to get one. they have bad heads and even worse bottom ends. just dont expect anyone to buy that escort off of you. If it was one of those early 90's gt models id say yes 100 percent.

 

Yeah at least its an early spi. You can beat those to death. Yeah its got no guts but I have seen many in the 300+k range around here. Most of those have more miles than the hondas in the junk yards. The later models like to lose valves. If it was a gt those are sweet cars. Same 1.8 engine as a miata.

 

if the deal is legit and you trust your friend, then hell yes I would do that! at worst you can sell the escort for a couple hundred dollars or scrap it and then you would have a crx with a b series, obviously a much bette platform to modify. But like I said how much do you trust your friend can do a good job on the swap??? btw im not knocking your friend I just dont know him or you so its a simple question...good luck

 

doode, im sorry to say this, but i would never trade an ef, no matter its condition. if its beat up, i would "waste" the money to restore it. to me its not waste. its just an investment for my happiness

and cmon for a ford? and escort nonetheless? they are ugly as ***** im sorry

 

Yeah the escorts are not pretty. But hey it would beat my crx any day on reliability. Honda can make engines. They can make suspensions. They can make a trans except for a 3rd gear. But they can't make electronics to save there lives.

 

sedan rly sucks escort/b18a1 you could sell for more than the sedans worth. you do the math
