OEM Power Steering pump

Default OEM Power Steering pump

So I noticed that my power steering pump on my ITR swap is leaking. You can see the dried up fluid all down the block on the right side. I am looking to replace it I guess, since I daily drive the car and no power steering sucks. Too bad they are so damn expensive. =(

Does anyone know which one it is? They are both showing up under illustration number 1 in the picture..

The first part number is the remanufactured one, while the second is brand new.

Go with the remanufactured if you end up buying a pump, but you can also re-seal the pump which sounds like it might be the better option for you since all you described is leaks (not seizing).

How do you go about getting it re-sealed and how much would that cost? That definitely sounds like a better option for me, because right now my power steering works as if it is perfectly fine, it is just slowly leaking.

Also, when I replaced my inner and outer tie rods I noticed my rack leaking a little bit as well, but I just put the dust shield on over it because a new rack costs a lot. Is it possible that my pump could be good but the fact that the rack is leaking is making the pump look bad and leak from up top?

What year civic is it in? If it's a '92 - '95 you can just get another pump from any '92 - '95 Civic or '94 - '97 Integra. I wouldn't spend the money on a new pump where they're so cheap and plentiful used.

Yeah its a 92 Civic that the swap is in. I thought I needed a B series pump.. If I got a 92-95 D series pump it might be harder to find a PS belt that works, cause the crank pulley to PS pulley length might be different when its on this motor than when its on a D series motor.

But I mean, it kind of sucks getting a used one that can go bad again at any time. Then you have to keep draining your fluid, etc. to replace it.

Use a B-series belt, the pumps are identical, pulley and all. I haven't seen too many P/S pumps go bad yet, and the few I have were due to people not running Honda P/S fluid.

Hmm... so use the belt I am using right now? Which is the GSR/Type R belt (OEM PN 56992-P72-004), I don't know if it also works for LS and B16 though.

Well since I have been running Honda P/S fluid since I got the swap, and it supposedly had around 17k miles on it (from Steve at HMO) and I am pretty sure Japanese owners of a Type R used the correct P/S fluid, what the hell gives? Do you think it is my bad rack that is causing my pump to seem bad?

Yes, just make sure the belt matches the engine. Like I said the pump (including the pulley) is the same between all '92 - '95 Civics and '94 - '97 Integras.

Dirt or water might have gotten in the pump when it was shipped over here from Japan on the boat, maybe it was just a bad pump or I suppose it's possible that the rack is causing excessive pressure to build up and blow the seal. Like I said I really haven't seen very many go bad.
